CARRICO TWINS: BACK IN ACTION WITH TEAM IN TRAINING!
Six years ago, Lilly joined Team in Training to fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and run the Honolulu Marathon. It was a life changing event for both of us. Over the next two years we both continued to support TNT and Theresa became a marathoner as well (pictured right). It was during this time we were introduced to Kyle Garlett - the Team's honored patient. Little did we know then the impact Kyle would bring to our lives.
At the time we met Kyle, he appeared to be an average guy. He had a warm personality, loved to talk sports, and enjoyed a cold beer every now and then. But average was not the word to describe a man who had been battling against leukemia and lymphoma for 14 years. The harsh radiation and chemotherapy were strong weapons against the disease, but they were equally strong adversaries which continually waged war against healthy parts of Kyle's body as well. As a result, a hip replacement, a shoulder replacement, and a heart transplant were all necessary procedures to allow Kyle's body time to beat his leukemia.
Flash forward to today and you will see Kyle on National TV as he participates in the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on October 10, 2009. Kyle is no elite athlete as you can imagine. But October 10, 2009 will be the exact three year anniversary of his heart transplant - the start of a new life for him.
As Kyle's life takes a new direction, he remains involved with TNT by joining the TEAM as a participant. His strength, determination, and desire to beat the disease rages on as he attempts a feat never before accomplished. A 38 year old, 4 time cancer survivor AND heart transplant recipient will participate in one of the biggest challenges the sports world has to offer. It will be no easy task. But Kyle believes in himself and everyone involved in TNT. He will tell you he is doing this simply "because he CAN!"
It is this driving passion that has reunited us to TNT - "because we can." And after six years of friendship with Kyle and his wonderful wife Carrie, we can not say no to his encouragement of helping others affected by this disease.
Therefore, 2010 is the year Theresa and Lilly CAN! Theresa will compete Lavaman; an olympic distance triathlon along the course of Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on March 28, 2010. Lilly will compete a full distance Ironman in Napa Valley, CA on July 31, 2010. Together we will raise $14,000 where 100% of all money raised will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
In doing so, we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support our participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
You can donate here to our team page and the money will be split evenly among us, or you can view our individual page where all money will be applied to the individual selected.
We hope you will visit our web site often to see our progress.
Thanks so much for your support!
