Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose."-- Tom Krause
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I started running in 2006. I met Dr. David Lim, who had completed marathons and triathlons with Team in Training. Dave gave me the initial inspiration and motivation to lead a more active lifestyle and THRIVE! Since then I have completed almost 30 marathons, including an Ultra Marathon, Vineman Iron Distance Triathlon, and Ironman Louisville 2010 and 2011.
Running is intrinsically a selfish activity. You race to finish as fast as you can, to set personal bests / personal records, and perhaps win your Age Group. In 2009, I decided I wanted to convert my running and racing towards a higher purpose. I decided to join Team in Training and raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society while training for an Ironman triathlon. In the midst of my training, I was injured in a ski accident. I tore the ACL in my right knee. I had reconstructive knee surgery in July 2009. After rehab I trained with the Ironteam for 10 months and became an Ironman at Ironman Louisville in August 2010.
In 2011, I raised funds for LLS while competing in the Wildflower Triathlon, Vineman 70.3 Triathlon, Vineman Iron Distance Triathlon, and IM Louisville. The last three events occurred in a 6 week period in July and August 2011. Now for 2012 I am ready to take on the challenge of the Ironman again.
On August 26, 2012, I will be swimming 2.4 miles in Lake Okanagan, then biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles over the challenging hills of the Okanagan Falls countryside, at Ironman Canada in Penticton, British Columbia.
Yes, 140.6 miles in one day in the mountains of British Columbia.
Team in Training is an amazing group of dedicated people. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Some did it to honor a family member or a friend battling Cancer. Others did it for Honored Teammates who have had to battle this disease. I am dedicating my 2012 fundraising to the family members, friends, and loved ones of my donors. Even if blood cancer has not touched us personally, we have all known special people whose lives have been affected by Cancer.
Please join me in raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Your donations support some of the most cutting-edge research on cancer. Many of the treatments and therapies discovered by research on blood cancers is now being applied to a wide variety of Cancers. What was once a near fatal diagnosis, is now considered a disease that can be treated in many types of Cancer.
I am grateful to everyone who donated to my previous fundraising. Now I am asking once again for your support. Together we can find a cure and offer a better future to those who will battle this disease. Please help me reach my goal... I have about $100 to go...Yahoo!
