Hawaii Half Ironman Triathlon: June 2, 2012

WHY I RACE:

In February 2007, I joined Team In Training (TNT) in order to get in better shape and meet other runners. I had been running marathons alone for several years and was looking to meet others who enjoyed the running lifestyle like I did. I knew TNT was a good cause, but I was fortunate that I had not been personally affected by the blood cancers that I would be raising money to fight. Initially the organization was just a training program for me.

Then I met the survivors. I met people who were living with these diseases. Some just visited the training sessions to inspire. Some were quietly training right alongside me. Some were neighbors. Some were co-workers. All became friends. My life has been changed forever by the lives that have touched me, lifelong friends I have made, and inspiration I have received as a member of this amazing organization.

Now, I'm preparing for my 5th year as a proud member of Team In Training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I enjoy the challenge of training but I see the bigger picture - that what I'm doing is helping to bring in badly needed funds to support cancer research and to provide medicines and services for people suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

Over the past 5 years I haver raised over $17,000 and my goal this season is to raise $4,250 to finally put me over the $20,000 mark! Together, we can make a difference and help find a cure.

This year, my race is the Ironman Hawaii 70.3 which is a half Ironman distance triathlon. The race will take place in Kona, Hawaii on June 2, 2012 and it will include a 1.2 mile ocean swim, a 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run.
