One Down, Another to Go ... This Sunday!
Sep 01, 2012 by Danah Davis
Friends and Family,
I'm going to be honest here. Do you know that feeling you get when you find the exact words that you want to say? You type them into your email, blog, or whatever...proofread and perfect every line? As you review the finished product you feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that you are conveying yourself exactly as you wanted to and so you hit "submit" and let out a sigh of relief?
Do you also know that feeling when you realize, much to your frustration and dismay, that somehow you did not hit submit and all your treasured words have disappeared in a fluke conspiracy your keyboard has against you?!?!?!!!!
Well, that, is my reality at this moment. It's never quite the same when you go to retype something that you felt so good about the first go round. I find myself being very paranoid that I'll mistakening punch some other mysterious combination of keys that will make my words disappear again; so I type with fear and trepediation.
The points that I wanted to make in my post to you today were expessions of thanks, love and gratitude for all of your encouragement, support and financial contributions to help find a cure for blood cancers by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Together we have raised $1851 to date that will bring millions of patients and their families' hope and help in the form of treatment and care. That is amazing!
As I prepare to run the race that started this journey for me months ago, I am humbled by what I have been able to accomplish through your generosity. However, I have not crossed the finish line yet and there is still work to be done. I have 13.1 miles and $349 to go before I reach the finish and meet my goal!
Will you help me? I need all hands on deck to spread the word about this incredible cause and ask their family and friends to give now! Let's bring in that $349 by the time I cross the finish line Sunday morning!
If you're reading this on Facebook, please repost my link. If you're visiting my fundraising page, please copy the link and send it to your contact list. Don't under estimate the positive effect and change that even $1 can make in the lives of those fighting for their lives. Every contribution counts!
I am incredibly grateful to all of you for rallying with me in my goal to stomp out blood cancers! You are amazing! Doesn't giving feel good!?!
P.S. Below are some pics from my very first half marathon the weekend before last in San Diego. Enjoy!

Here I am enjoying my favorite run from Crane School, through Summerland, Padero Lane to the end of Santa Claus Lane Beach in Carp and back to Crane School.
It's August 11th and I am one week away from my first half marathon in San Diego and three weeks away from the Disney Half Marathon that I am training for with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
A lot has happened in the past few weeks since my last post. I got engaged to the love of my life, I turned 30 and I graduated with my Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. Needless to say, I've been busy!
I am looking forward to celebrating my next milestone of raising $2200.00 to help support the amazing work that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does to help find cures and treatments for blood cancers and completing two half marathons within two weeks.
I have had the incredible and humbling honor of watching the LLS and Team in Training work first hand. This season, one of our teammates' daughters, Stephanie, a beautiful young woman around my age; was diagnosed with Leukemia. Our team immediately sprung into action organizing three bone drives to try and find a match for Stephanie after she completes aggressive chemotherapy treatments, creating cards and banners with words of encouragement to place in her hospital room during the month long physically grueling treatments and spinal taps and being available to Stephanie's family and friends for a shoulder to cry on. I feel inspired knowing that the LLS does things like this for millions of people all over the world because of generous donations from caring people like you!
In fact, Stephanie's mother wrote us a letter this week thanking us for fundraising, telling us about how her daughter wears the shirt we created for her to bed each night when treatment gets rough and how the type of chemotherapy that Stephanie is receiving to keep her alive, was created using funds from an LLS grant.
Thank you for your supporting Stephanie and millions of others with your donations. Together we can make a difference one dollar at time, one step at a time, one person at time. Go team!
Why We Run
Jun 14, 2012 by Danah Davis
When I joined Team in Training, I was so touched by the stories of compassion, healing and charity I heard from my teammates who have been affected in one way or another by blood cancers. It made me feel so empowered to help the cause and make my running efforts about more than personal fitness or physical challenge. Sure, I could enter a marathon, pay the entry fee and run completely independent. However, teaming up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society gives my run greater purpose and extends the benefits beyond myself to helping millions of individuals and their families who are battling blood cancers.
I was recently touched by a donor who shared why they wanted to support the cause. She did not have much to give but she wanted to help because she felt connected to it. She explained that over 20 years ago she lost her best friend and neighbor to leukemia at a very young age. It devasted her and she often thinks about him to this day.
Hearing her story reminded me why we do this, why we run and why we choose to raise funds to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We believe in bringing hope and help to those fighting blood cancers. We believe in supporting research that will hopefully one day find cure.
I often think of the children, adults and elders who have lost their lives to this disease when I run and it pushes me to keep going, keep running and keep reaching out to generous folks like you to help contribute to this amazing cause!
Thank you for your support! Thank you for helping those who can't fight this battle alone! Thank you for standing by them and showing your financial support! We are making a difference!
