Four Survivors, all making a difference in the fight against Blood Cancers in gratitude for each day!

On Saturday, June 9, I will be joining TEAM SOAR in the NYC Mini 10K, an empowering race of women in Central Park, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is my fourth year participating in Team in Training, and I am still determined to keep walking and fundraising until there is a cure!
As you may know, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer of the bone marrow, in 2012. Since that time I have been on two different treatment regiments and, last year, I had a stem cell transplant. Using the most sophisticated testing possible, there is no evidence of myeloma in my bone marrow. This, of course is tempered by the fact that myeloma is aggressive and sneaky and incurable. Because I am considered "high risk" because of my genetic make-up I remain on maintenance medication that has some wacky side effects but if it keeps the myeloma in remission that is fine with me!
In the past 6 years I have met amazing survivors of cancer, including Douglas, an 11 year old boy who is an ambassador for the LLS. Take a few minutes to watch this video, meet Douglas, and understand how the research funded by the LLS has kept this inspiring boy alive:
The advances in treatments for blood cancers have come a long way, but there is still a need for more research until a cure is found for ALL blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndrome.
