Your gift in the present will make somebody's future...
Hey everybody, it's Emily! You may or may not know, but I'm running my first marathon on January 10th, 2010 in Orlando!!! I'm fundraising for Leukemia and Lymphoma, blood cancers that are the #1 disease killer of children and the leading fatal malignant disease of men and women under the age of 35.
I went to the Team in Training info session with some reservation about signing on for a marathon, but couldnt help but feel inspired after hearing about people doing this for as much as 7 years running!!
Just like anybody else, I was wondering how much of an impact these runs have. That's when I found out that LLS runs have raised the money to develop a drug that has a 95% success rate for blood cancer patients! That was all I needed to hear.
Where Does Your Donation Go?
$25 could pay for the cost of 1 patient's chemotherapy drug prescription co-payment.
$50 makes a support group possible
$75 could provide HLA (bone marrow) typing for a family member of a patient with leukemia.
$150 provides 10 patients access to a web-conference to learn about their specific blood cancer.
$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.
$500 could provide patient aid to a person with Leukemia or a related cancer for a year.
Donations large and small make all the difference in the world. My fundraising goal is $3800, in total. Please know that every dollar counts!!! Collectively over $88 million was raised last year by regular folks just like me. This 100% tax deductible donation will be used for research, patient services and education.
Your loved ones will carry me all 26.2 miles, as I will proudly wear their names on my singlet. Please let me know if your donation is for someone special.
