TREKKERS……… On life’s journey for a cure

Over the course of the next several months a group of hikers led by John Fellin and Lee Hymowitz will be raising money for the Climb2Cure initiative run by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS). Between August 1st and the middle of March 2018, team members will climb 3 mountains, Mt. Washington, Pikes Peak and the biggest of all Mt. Kilimanjaro. The combined total of all three mountains is 39,744 feet. Our fundraising goal is appropriately set at $39,744. If you choose to donate by check please make payment out to The Leukemia Lymphoma Society and send it to

The Trekkers will be climbing in honor of John’s wife, Cyndi who was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) two years ago and to support the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in its mission to find a cure. Every day the LLS helps people like Cyndi deal with their diagnosis. They are on the fore front of funding research, patient support, asdvocacy and education. Hopefully the strides made in treatments funded by LLS will someday lead to a cure for ALL CANCERS. A few months ago they launched the Climb2Cure fundraising initiative started by Lila Javin, a Leukemia survivor. To find out more about Lila’s battle and how Climb2Cure began click on this link

While this will be a very challenging physical under taking it pales in comparison to the challenges every cancer patient faces on a daily basis. Our team goal has been set at $39,744. It is our hope that the money raised will help LLS continue their mission of patient support, funding research to find new and better treatments and lead to a cure in the near future. Many of the advances LLS funds will also help find a cure for all cancers. Please consider supporting us in this undertaking. If you know of any business that would be interested in becoming a team sponsor please let us know or if your employer matches donations send information to

From John Fellin …..

On a personal note I am very grateful to Lee and all the Trekkers for supporting me and my family. Lee was standing next to me when I received the call from my wife informing me of her diagnosis. Thank you Lee for your support and friendship!

I will be doing this climb in Honor of ……...

Cyndi Fellin, the love of my life, my wife and best friend, who thanks to new treatments funded in part by the LLS, her Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is currently in remission

Arlene Liepshutz, my sister who is in remission after treatment for endometrial cancer which spread to surrounding areas. She is in remission at the present time and has been cancer free for almost two years now.

Phil Savarese, a friend and soon to be Deacon at my church, who has Multiple Myeloma. He currently is watching and praying that his disease does not progress

Greg Gibbons, the brother of my friend Danny at my church who has been diagnosed and treated for advanced Malignant Metastatic Melanoma. He is currently cancer free.

Kevin Doherty, the son of my friend Carol from my parish, who has just completed treatment for Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). He is currently in remission

In Memory of ….

All our family and friends who lost their battle with cancer. Many of the advances in blood cancer research funded by LLS have led to advances in all forms of cancer treatments

All our family and friends whose lives have been touched by cancer. The LLS provides information and support to patients and families to help them deal with the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis

LLS invested $40.3 million in research in fiscal year 2016/2017 to advance life-saving research
