Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to Teresa's Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event - St Anthony's Olympic Triathlon in Petersburg, FL, this April 2009 - as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am participating in this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. My personal honored hero focus this season is baby Angela Maria! Additionally, I am doing this triathlon in honor of a fellow classmate of mine Jessica Troiano and my cousin Debora Sabrina Lopez Gonzalez. All three of these individuals lost their battles with Leukemia, and I want to help support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society find a cure (they are so close).
These family members and friends are the real heroes on our team and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! This way the story of these three lives are not forgotten, but remembered as we raise funds to help find the cure that wasn't there when they were battling to survive their fight with Leukemia.
Many of you know that I have been challenging myself physically with the LLS Hike team (Grand Canyon 07 & Smoky Mountains 08) to work myself up to doing this tri. I am so happy that not only am I pushing myself to that next level, but also continuing to fund raise to help those who are touched by blood cancers.
Why do I push myself? Because someones life depends on it!
I'll do the hard work in the sense of training and crossing the finish line. What I'm hoping you can help me do is the hard work to raise the funds I need to make it happen.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. I hope you will visit my website often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. As I train I'm going to try and get some pictures along the way so that you can see what I have accomplished with your help. Thanks for your support!

A few updates:
1. One month of training has been completed.
2. I'm actually doing better than I thought in the group runs: Did 4 miles in 40 mins last weekend without stopping. That's a true achievement for me! (Not the fastest runner but for the beginning of the season - a 10 minute mile, not bad for my slow self.)
3. Currently offering $5 & $10 Superbowl boxes as a 50/50 to fundraise.
4. Secured location for Speed-Dating event!

Just wanted to thank all those that participated in my Lia Sophia Jewelry Event. You helped me raise just over $300 for the cause! Funds will be posted soon to reflect in my goal total. Keep your eyes and ears open for my upcoming fundraising events: Speed Dating LLS event & Super Bowl Box 50/50!!!

Training Update!
Well completed one week of training and so far so good. I got through the swim and cycle training with ease. As far as the running, well you all know that's what I need to train for the most especially since it is the last leg. The first week I parked in the wrong lot and started running on my own but found the team and caught up. Then this weekend for the run I was doing so well not stopping once, until on the way back with the sun glare I fell right over a tree root. You would think with all the hiking that I wouldn't have a problem with the roots...well a few scratches on my hands and and bruised right knee later. Good news is I had a team of new friends to ask me if I was okay. I quickly got right back up and started running again. The only stop in the run that morning. I was very proud of myself and thankful to be surrounded by caring people.
