Racing to Save Lives

Hello, thank you for visiting my website! I am raising money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in exchange for endurance training through the Team In Training program. I will be participating in the Derby MiniMarathon on April 24th, as well as raising $2000 for the Society. According to Runner's World Magazine, 1 in every 15 people who finish a marathon are Team In Training participants who raised money to help find a cure for blood cancers!

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a national, not-for-profit, voluntary health agency whose mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society provides funding for research, public and professional education, advocacy, patient aid, and community support programs. Seventy-five percent of every dollar goes directly to The Society for research and patient care.

Working as an occupational therapist in a nursing home has exposed me to the harsh realities of cancer. This illness does not discriminate man from woman or adult from child. An estimated 895,000 Americans have blood cancers; in addition, every 4 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone loses the battle against blood cancer. Fortunately because of funding, there have been advances in research improving the cure rates from 4% in 1960 to almost 85% today! So I am hoping that you will join me in the fight against blood cancers!
