In honor of Leukemia/Lymphoma/Myleoma Awareness Month *and* Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I am raffling off the Reggie Wayne Autographed Mini Helmet that I won at last week's Colts game. The first 20 $25 donations I get this month will be entered in the drawing. If you donate $50, you will be entered twice. I am limiting this to 20 entries to give people a better chance of winning. I will end the contest when I get the 20th $25 donation.
Today is September 1st which means we can officially say that our half marathon is next month! I can't believe it's so close!
Our fundraisers have been running hot and cold. Some have been very profitable while others have been a total flop! Oh well, such is the life of a fund rasier. I do have info on another fund raiser our team is doing. It will be auction of art and other goodies including an official Colts football! This fun is scheduled for Saturday 9/21 from 3-5:00 at Mosaic Church at 5515 E Washington St in Indianapolis, in the Irvington area on the eastside. We will have finger foods and a 50/50 raffle. There is no fee to enter, but donations will be taken at the door.
In other news, Mickey competed in the National Miss Amazing Pageant this weekend. She got 1st runner up in the Jr. Teen division. She is very happy with her trophy and new crown! :)
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month *and* Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Become an advocate for pediatric cancer research to help raise awareness in your community. Here are a few facts regarding pediatric leukemia:
From 2006 to 2010, leukemia represented 26.7 percent of all of the types of cancer occurring among children and adolescents younger than 20 years.
Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and
adolescents less than 20 years old.
About 32 percent of estimated cancer cases in children
and adolescents younger than 15 years are leukemia.
Please consider making a donation to help fight pediatric blood cancers so that more girls in the future will have the chance to shine like Mickey does!
Life has been a bit beyond crazy here lately with our move, training, fund raising, preparing for a trip to Omaha for Mickey's National Miss Amazing Pageant. It's nuts, I tell you! :) But I love it! We have been very blessed this year with some incredible opportunities and I am thrilled.
Fund raising is proving a bit challening so I am working on some new FUNdraisers. (See what I did there? I made fundraising fun! :) ) We are having a yummy fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings at County Line and Emerson on the south side of Indy on 8/21. Just print the flyer on this page, bring it in and 10% of your purchase (aside from gift cards and alcohol) will go to my goal. Our family plans to be there around 6:00 so we'd love to see you there!
Oh my goodness! I just realized that it is exactly 3 months till Nike!! How did that happen?! Time is flying by and October 20 will be here before I know it!
We had group training at Ft. Ben today. It was Mickey's first time on any kind of hills. She did GREAT! We had a great 2.5 mile walk. After GT was the Honored Hero breakfast. During breakfast I told the group a bit about Baby Donovan and the impact he had on our lives. People were moved by his story and I think he will give them a little inspiration as they train. It was even more special when someone from a nearby table came over to give us a donation after hearing our story! I love those moments!!
Today - 3 months from our event - I only have $436 raised. I still need over $3500. Please consider making a donation. If you work for a company that does matching, make sure you fill out the needed forms so your donation can go twice as far!! Thanks!!
Finally, here are a couple of pictures from today:
Great lookin' group at GT this morning!
A little rain couldn't stop me from shaking a bucket at Walmart today!
Yesterday was our first official group training. We had a great turn out! Mickey and I walked 2 miles in just over 45 minutes. She loved the new location and the energy of the team.
Mickey has reached her fund raising minimum. Now we are going to focus on getting me where I need to be. Only $3600 more to go! Every penny I raise goes toward the team goal of $100,000 so that we can name a research grant after Mickey. I'll post more about that in the future.

My family has been looking forward to Team Mickey for 3 years. We first started talking about it when I did the Nike Women's Marathon in 2009. Mickey loved the idea of an event that had a Chocolate Mile and that had firefighters wearing tuxedos waiting at the finish line to give each finisher a Tiffany & Co. necklace. So now we're here....registration just opened and Mickey could not be more excited! Here's a little bit about what brought us to this day....
When Mickey was 7 years old, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She endured 26 months of treatment with smiles and grace beyond her years. During her treatment and soon after, she lost friends to leukemia and was determined to make a difference. I joined Team in Training in the spring of 2007, right as Mickey finished treatment & began serving as an Honored Hero and right after we lost a sweet little friend, Baby D, to Infant ALL. Our whole family got involved with TNT. Mickey has been an Honored Hero for several teams. I have done events and mentored others. My husband has completed and coached multiple cycling events. Our son, Brad, has helped at various fund raisers and water stops over the years. It stood to reason that when Mickey hit 16 years old, the minimum age for TNT, she would do an event. So that brings us to today and the beginning of Team Mickey!
Our team's goal is to raise $100,000 for Team in Training. By raising that amount, we will be able to name a research grant after Mickey. She has already decided she wants her name to be put on research to help find a cure for Infant ALL in memory of Baby D.
