Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

This past year has brought me many blessings, one of them being my beautiful daughter Lucy and another one being the continuing recovery of William Arbanas (Lou's grandfather) from Hodgkin's disease and Larry Browning (a friend of the family) from lymphoma. In thanksgiving for their health, I got involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training (TNT). TNT's mission is to fund research to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

On October 18, 2009, I will be running in the Nike Women's (Half) Marathon in San Francisco with TNT. While running 13.1 miles will be a personal challenge, I have also been given the opportunity to (i) raise money to further TNT's mission and (ii) run for our team's honored hero, Michaela ("Mickey") Deputy, a 12 year old Indianapolis native who was diagnosed with leukemia in December of 2004.

My goal is to raise $3900. Your donation is tax deductible with 75 cents of every dollar going directly to research and patient services. The other 25 cents is allocated to stage the marathon and the fundraising event. I have listed some categories below as suggested donations levels. Every donation will help me reach my goal and will go toward the larger goal of finding a cure for these cancers.

There are two easy ways to donate to this cause. You can donate on this personal website. You can also send your check made payable to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to my home address listed below. I'll be tracking my fundraising progress carefully, so your response by August 1, 2009 will be appreciated.

How on earth is it already October 15th?! I'm very excited! We will be leaving at 6 am tomorrow!! Thank you all for making this opportunity possible. Without you, this dream would not have come true. Thank you again and I look forward to talking with you all once we get back!

Recommitment has happened!! I'm going to San Francisco!! Lou and Lucy are going too!! We are very excited. Thank you so much for all your support. I couldn't have done it without you. I'm almost there. Just a few more dollars...

It is hard to believe that I am almost at the recommitment date! How does time fly so fast? Lucy and I are doing great on our training. She is having me chase her around the house and riding in the stroller as I run. She is a great running mate. We have just scheduled a Chick-fil-A night at the Southport Road restaurant for August 5th. Please come and tell family and friends. I get 20% of all orders that mention the Nike Women's Marathon.
