What is an Honored Hero you may ask. Well let me tell you. They are a person who has battled or is battling a blood cancer. They are the reason we (those on the Team in Training) run, bike and/or swim. They are friends, co-workers, spouses, children and other loved ones. They are our motivation in times of difficulty and a source of inspiration when we face the quiting point.
The Leukemia aand Lymphoma Society Team in Training has Honoered Heros that they assign to each team, however, each participant is of course welcome & encouraged to have their own. My honored heros are two good friends. Beside both knowing me, both having leukemai & both having the last name Miller (and in case you are wondering they are of no relation) that is where the similarities end.
Carolyn Miller was diagnosised a few days before Christmas in 2009. She has a very aggressive form of Leukemia and required chemo and a bone marrow transplant. Her battle continues to this day with continual struggles to keep her blood cell counts where they need to be, to keep her free from infections and to keep her alive.
Andrea Miller was diagnosised iin the summer of 2009. Thankfully there is a medication that Andrea can take that controls her type of Leukemia. By the way the medicaiton she takes was discovered by researchers who received funding from LLS. She does still face many challenges since her Leukemia lives her easily fatigued and more prone to infections and less quick to recover from them.
Let us also not forget the families that are also effected by this disease. Caarloyn is a wife and mtoher to a 6 year old litltle boy and Andrea is a wife 7 mother to a 10 year old little boy.
Both of these women
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the Community Health Network Indianapolis Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. My journey is not over. There is stillwork to be done, until the last is cured and the battle WON!
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back out my blog
