Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

My brother Patrick and I are training to participate in The Bank of America Chicago Marathon October 11, 2009 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

We are currently training to run this marathon, which is 26.2 miles, for 3 very important people in our lives. These individuals bravely faced or are currently facing the daily challenges of this disease: Aunt Mo (Molly Gallant), Sean Creagh and Stephanie Van Kirk.

My Aunty Mo is the bravest person that I know; with her never-ending spirit of positivity and strength she doesn't coward away from her fight with Leukemia. She is often found kayaking, playing bridge or walking the beach...she is why we run.

We have committed to raise $1,400.00 for the Leukemia Society in addition to completing my first Chicago Marathon, Patrick's 2nd. We are asking for your help in attaining this goal. In this challenging economy, we realize a donation may be difficult. Please remember...whatever you can give counts.

We could use a team name so feel free to throw suggestions out there!

We hope you will visit this web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!

A wise man we know used to say this often to us when we were little and playing sports:

"What matters is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog."

I have created the following blog regarding our training...

June 27th

Today Team ran 8 miles in Busse woods. We had beautiful weather and the run went very well. Team is off this coming weekend as it is a holiday, therefore everyone must train 60min on our own. I am signed up to complete a 10k in Arlington Heights and so is Patrick :-) Go Team!! I will be trying to post some pictures or create a picture blog...I am working on it!

August 2nd

Today I ran my first half marathon and finished in 2:09:57, not to shabby! I will post pictures as soon as I download them off the camera!

July 25th

Today Team and I ran 10 miles in Barrington hills. Tough run, hills is all I have to say :-)

July 18th

Gorgeous day for a 12 mile run on the lake front - the farthest that I have personally ever run - couldn't have done it without Team!

June 20th

Team and I ran 8 miles in Barrington...which means ... HILLS!! Our run was interesting this week as the trails were flooded due to all of the rain and it was about 73 degrees at 7am! Great run :-)

June 13th

Today we ran for 60 minutes in Busse Woods which was a little over 6 miles - the pouring rain made it quite the adventure!

June 6th

Ran 6 miles with Team- about 30 of us in the Des Plaines river trail at 7am - felt good!!

"Thank you so much for raising money to end this deadly disease. I have been touched by Leukemia (AML) and know many who have lost their lives or are suffering the grueling side effects from the treatment of this disease. I pray I get to see the day when no child, adult or their families has to suffer because of this horrible disease. "
