Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

A few years ago I would never imagine I would be so involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission and the training but it is an incredibly worthy cause and the training has changed my life. Truth be told, I used to hate running! My wife Shanna wanted to get into it and she really had to drag me out of the house every time.

How things change... that is me in that picture after completing my second marathon in Chicago in 2009!

I am now in my third season with the team and am now in the role of mentor. This means I am not only raising funds on my own but I provide support and motivation to others in the team. I feel this role allows me to do even more for a cause that is very close to my heart. As most of you know by now, Ron Pranaitis (my father-in-law) is undergoing treatment for leukemia and I am happy to say that his illness is under control and his body is slowly but surely healing itself. Shanna and I wanted to do something to help when we learned of his diagnosis. We are not scientists, rich, nor are we able to perform miracles, but we can raise funds that directly impact his life and the lives of many in similar circumstances. So we do.

On May 1, 2010, I will be running the Christy's Clinic Illinois Marathon in Urbana-Champaign in honor of Ron and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I am also honored to have been nominated to participate in the Man & Woman of the Year fundraising competition that will take place from March 11 to May 21, 2010. This is a special fundraising campaign where the only limitation is time. I will provide more details about this in the near future but I can tell you one thing: I need a lot of help because my campaign will be BIG!

Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress and for more information on my participation in the Man & Woman of the Year fundraising competition. Thanks for your support!

February 9, 2010

Thanks so much to my donors. I have been hard at work fund raising and have participated in "tag days", gift-wrapping days over the holidays and other events and will be updating the total amount raised in the coming weeks.

Very reluctantly, I have decided not to run in the Man & Woman of the Year fundraising competition due to personal commitments. It has been just over a year since I lost my job as an architect and finding a job has proven to be the hardest job of all. I need to focus on this and on my family before I can dedicate to running a successful campaign. I would rather not run this year than run a mediocre campaign and am already looking forward to running next year if the nomination stands.

I have also been busy motivating my mentees who are doing great! It is always a good thing to see new people campaigning for this great cause and also becoming better runners in the process.

And one more thing...

I have been helping my wife Shanna organize what I know will be a fantastic fundraising and musical event. Please come and support her mission too!
