Racing to Save Lives

Six years ago on February 2nd, I was diagnosed with leukemia (CML). Four years ago I rode in my first Team In Training fundraiser to help raise money for the battle against leukemia and lymphoma.

I am one of the fortunate survivors who can say, thanks to people like you, through your support and donations, I am able to ride again and give back to the continued research for the ultimate cure for all blood cancers. Today, although the survival rate is much better than it was even 6 years ago, we are still losing lives.

I realize everyone is facing their own personal battles, not the least is that of the economy and job security. So I understand how hard it is to give to this type of fund raiser. However, if you and everyone you know, gives at least $25 to this cause, we can make a great difference!

Gleevec, the great ground-breaking medication made by Novartis, which has kept me going for the past 6 years, is an expensive medication. The cost of my ongoing treatment is $5800 per month! And, some people are becoming immune to this drug and must look elsewhere for new medications or alternative treatment.

So much work is still ahead of us to find the ultimate cure for cancer. As I train for my 2nd shot at Lake Tahoe and its 100 miles of mountain covered trails, it is you I will think of, and thank for your generous support and contribution to this ongoing battle!
