Raising Money to Help Find a Cure!
On June 6, 2010, I will be running in the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon. This will be my 3rd full marathon and the most meaningful one yet because I am dedicating it to my father in law, Carl McFarland. My wife Patti will be walking the half marathon in honor of her dad!
Carl died of non Hodgkins Lymphoma on February 21, 2000. His death came only a week after we heard of his condition. Patti and I wish her dad could be there to see us cross the finish line. I know he would be one of our loudest supporters!
I have joined a program called Team in Training (TNT) which raises funds for leukemia and lymphoma research and treatment. TNT is the worlds largest endurance sports training program and since its founding has raised over $660 million dollars for cancer research. They also assist families who are going through treatment by providing financial help, support, information and most of all--hope. The survival rates for children and adults have been raised significantly thanks to research funded by people involved in programs like TNT.
My goal is to raise $3,500 to help fund research and patient assistance. I need your help to get me to that goal. If only 35 people donated $100 each I would make my goal!
Please consider supporting me with any amount by making a tax-deductible contribution by March 31, 2010. You can donate by check or credit card. If you pay by check, please make checks payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can make a donation directly on my website here:

Or if you prefer you can help Patti achieve her funraising goal by visiting her website here:

With the assistance and motivation of our Team in Training group, I know I will reach my goal to complete the marathon and with your help I can achieve my fundraising goal also!
When I cross the finish line on June 6th, my father in law will not be there. But with your help, other leukemia and lymphoma patients and survivors will.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.
Thanks for your support!

Updates
March 19th
Its been a busy week. 13.5 mile run with Team in Training Saturday (includes a wrong turn down Warm Springs), 15.5 mile run Sunday to Adalpe Summit for Robie Creek training, Monday rest day, 8.5 mile loop Tuesday up Fat Tire traverse trail, 8 mile loop up Shanes trail on Wednesday! One hour on the heated massage table Thursday night was a very welcome relief!
March 13th
We are doing well on our fundraising but we still need your help!
Today we were scheduled to run 12+ miles. The weather lloked quite ugly this morning with snow and strong winds. By the time we met to run the snow was mostly done and the winds were rying down. One wrong turn on Warm Springs Ave and I ended up running 13.7 miles today instead of jsut over 12 miles. Add that to almost 8 mile sin teh foothills Thursday evening plus our scheduled 10 -12 mile run up Rocky Canyon tomorrow! We will see how far we can get with all of the snow!
Go TEAM!
March 5th
I am officially a Senior now. I turned 55 yesterday and was able to cash in on my age and get a Senior coffee at McDonalds on my way to work. Since I was born on 3/4/55 I decided to run 5 miles last night for my 55th birthday!
Double duty tomorrow. Team in Training in the morning and Robie Creek training in the afternoon. Spring is here! Sunny and kinda warm!
March 1st
Thanks so much for those that have given so generously so far. Please help spread the word and to get out the support for this very worthwhile cause!
Well we are in full swing for the San Diego marathon training as well as training for the April Race to Robie Creek. We ran 10 miles in the wind and rain with the Team in Training group on Saturday. Paul, Andrea and I ran another 11 miles or so to the top of the Adalpe summit on Sunday. Gray, muddy, snowy, wet, nasty near the top. It was great to hit the summit on the last day of February! A nice 5 mile buddy run tonight followed by beer and sandwiches at the Ram.
Feb 22 Over the weekend I officially started training for BOTH the San Diego Marathon AND the Race to Robie Creek. I ran 8 miles Saturday morning with our TNT group and then I ran another 10 miles in the afternoon with a friend training for Robie Creek. The afternoon run also included 1,200' of elevation gain. Our TNT buddy run was only three people tonight. We did a fast 5 mile run at about sub 9 minute miles. Well thats fast for an old guy!
Please support Patti and I in this fundraising endeavour!
Thanks for your help!
Feb 11th Yesterday was a great day! folks are starting to get on board and help out. I raised $325 yesterday alone. I still have a long ways to go. Please help out now!
Feb 8th We were in Olympia for my mother in-laws 80th birthday party this weekend. I did manage to sneek in two loops around Capitol Lake on Saturday. That was good for about 10 miles or so. Now that I am back home its time to get more focused on training for the Race to Robie Creek in April AND the Rock N Roll marathon in San Diego in June. Its also time to hit the fund raising very hard. Since wy wife ALSO signed up I need to help with her own fund raising as well. Thanks to those that have already given so generously I have already rasied $750 in just over two weeks! I have commitments for another $300 - $400 more! Thanks to ALL.
Go Team!
Jan 24th I ran about 7 miles today including a climb up through the Warm Springs Mesa neighborhood. Its was to muddy to continue on to the top of Table Rock. Less than two days with my web site up and have raised $175 so far! Go Team!
Jan. 23rd We met the group for the first time at Municpal Park in Boise. There were about 35 folks present. It was to be a 3 mile run to start the routine. I ran the 3 miles with the group and then ran 4 more miles back home!
