I Finished!!

01-31-09:

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

I apologize for taking so long to update my page, but have been trying to get back into the normal swing of things!

I had an awesome trip to Arizona with my team and family. I ran the half marathon on Sunday, January 18, 2009, and set a personal goal in my head of 2:30:00. This was based off of rough calculations of the pace I had been training at. I finished the race at 2:34:42! I was so close, but due to that one stop at the restroom!... For my first race, I am totally satisfied with my results and plan to run more half marathons in the future!

I am going to stay involved with Team in Training as part of one of their committees for the time being, and may raise money again in future seasons. In the mean time, my husband Michael got the running itch pretty bad while we were in Phoenix and will begin raising money for the race for next year! We are both so excited to continue our involvement with the amazing organization that provides so much help for so many people!

With the help of all Team in Training members and trainees, we will keep getting closer to a cure for cancer.

Thank you again for all your support and God Bless!!

12-23-08:

GOAL= $3800... I have raised a total of $3854! 101% of Goal! Thank you to everyone who helped and made donations. I am so excited to have hit my goal and look forward to the race in less than 4 weeks!

Over the last month or two, I have been fighting some foot pain that, although not as bad as it could be, is most likely Plantar Fasciitis. For those of you who are familiar with this, it can cause pretty severe pain, and treatment/prevention includes NOT RUNNING! YEAH RIGHT.... so although it isn't bad enough for me to stop running right now, I have decided to back off to the half marathon instead of the full. This was a very tough decision for me, but I still have the same fundraising goal, and am still running for all the same reasons... just a few less miles!!

So again, thank you all for supporting me and I will continue to update this page through my race date of Jan. 18!!

Thank you to EVERYONE who has donated...

Last Monday I received an email from an old friend back East letting me know she wanted to send me a check, that there is a little girl in her neighborhood battling leukemia.

The next morning I got up to another email letting me know that the little girl, Lexi has died that morning, Sept 16, 2008. Since then I have learned more about this Sweet Angel named Lexi and her wonderfully stong family. Lexi was originally diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma in Oct. 2003 when she was 7. On April 23, 2008 Lexi was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. From that day, she spent all but about a month at the Boston Children's Hospital.

I've been following her families postings on a great website called carepages.com and I wish I could have met Lexi. Her story makes me want to raise more money for research so that we don't have to loose such great people from our lives. PLEASE... take this story to heart and donate if you haven't, and encourage others if you have.

Denver Leeds finished his radiation treatments Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Please keep him in your prayers that when he returns for a check-up in 6 weeks that the cancer is gone.

My Original Message:

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

The day after I signed up for this, my husband and I found out that our friend, Denver Leeds, at the young age of 27, was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He went through surgery to remove the cancerous cells, but when he went in for a follow-up, his doctors found that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and abdomen. The following day, August 14, 2008, Denver began aggressive radiation treatments, 5 times per week for 5 weeks, with the hopes of ridding the cancer from his body. His Faith in God is keeping him strong and we keep him in our prayers.

Along with the area Patient Honorees, I will run this race in honor of Denver and his fight. Please help me in supporting him and the millions of other adults and children suffering from blood related cancers. Over 75% of every dollar will go directly to research and helping patients just like Denver. Also remember that all donations are tax-deductible. Training for this 26.2 mile marathon is quite a challenge. But my challenge is nothing compared to the challenge that thousands of people of all ages have to overcome on a daily basis battling cancer.

As I complete my training and my event, your support will inspire me to run harder and faster towards the finish line! Please join me in this great challenge. Whatever you can do to contribute matters & it all adds up! Please send you contributions by October 20, 2008. Make all checks out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Getting your donations early will help me track my progress. However, we will continue to accept donations through December 2008.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
