I'm participating in a number of endurance events this year to get in shape, but most importantly to raise funds to find a cure for blood cancer. I need your encouragement and support to be successful.

As you may know I lost my mom, Sheila Slawson, to Leukemia in December 2003, just a few days before Christmas. I also lost my sister-in-law, Karen Slawson, to a rare form of sarcoma cancer in August 2008, she was just 42. My family and our friends miss them very much. You will never be forgotten Mom & Karen. We love you very much.

I’ll be taking part in the Haleiwa Metric Bike Ride (40 miles) in April, the Honolulu Sprint Triathlon in May, the Hibiscus Half Marathon in June, the North Shore Swim Series in July & August (4 ocean swims: 1 mile, 1.2 miles, 1.6 miles and 2.3 miles) and the Honolulu Half Century (50 mile) bike ride in September.

I’m training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team-In-Training program. While volunteer coaches and mentors train me and others to swim, bike & run, I’ll be raising funds for patient services and research to find a cure for blood cancer. All of us in Team-In-Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I’m participating in these events in memory and in honor of mom, Karen and all those who have battled, and who are battling, cancer. These people are the heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Last year you helped me raise over $2,500 for patient services and blood cancer research. Thank you all for your continued support. Every donation touches my heart and can help save lives.
