I decided to take over a post or two for Kevin. He's pretty busy right now, and since I have nothing else to do with my time...... ;)
I'm pretty proud of my husband. He started working out at the CrossFit in Fenton this past November. He gets up most mornings at 5 am or a little after to make the 6 am workout session and then works a full day after that. I was able to go with him to a couple's night on Feb. 15th. (Yes, this was our Valentine's date.) We only worked out for 12 minutes. I was sore for 3 days and my abs still hurt when I sneeze!
Adding this 5K training to an already full schedule is pretty impressive to me. The fact that he wanted to do a 5K to raise money and awareness for Leukemia, impressed me even more.
He tracked one of his running sessions. Pretty good! We'll see if the weather cooperates this weekend for another mapped run.
Obviously, his biggest motivation to do this 5K is our daughter. The amazing strides that have been achieved in treating Leukemia, are in part due to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I don't even want to think about where we might be in Madeline's treatment and care without this group and others that have invested time and money into research. Here's a break down of just LLS's contribution:
In fiscal year 2011, LLS invested more than $76 million in blood cancer research.
All that money has to come from companies and people just like all of us. Honestly, we are LOVING 'modern medicine', right now. And, 'modern medicine' comes from lots and LOTS of research.
Our new motto for our family is "Perspective is everything". While Madi's diagnosis is something we could really do without, her prognosis is amazing! Especially, since just the 1960s her chances of survival would have been less than 10%. There is now a more than 90% survival rate for childhood ALL. A great place to be - and a place that is possible because of all the research being done.
We wanted to thank those who have donated! There's still plenty of time to add to Kevin's total.
If you would also like to follow Madi's progress during her fight against ALL, I've got a blog all about it at www.madismilestones.blogspot.com. She is quite the little inspiration.
We'll keep posting!
As many of you know Madi, our six year old daughter, was diagnosed with Leukemia in September of last year. She is progressing well with her treatments. Her treatment protocol is the results of ongoing reasearch conducted in part due to funds given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am going to participate in a series of 3 - 5k races to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Please pledge to help support this cause.
thanks
Kevin
Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
