Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
This is my second endurance event with Team in Training, I will be running the half marathon in April at St. Louis Go. Earlier this year I ran the Rock and Roll half marathon and was unable to finish due to an injury. The fact that I couldn't finish was devastating to me. I was running in honor of my uncle Kenny who passed away from Lymphoma 8 years ago. So this time I am determined to cross that finish line injury free with a smile on my face.
My uncle was a great man. He had a great personality and great laugh. It was when I was in high school we found out he had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Needless to say he began treatment immediatey, and would continue it off and on until the end of my senior year. I remember him at my graduation party and thinkiing to myself how great he looked and how happy we all were that he was in remission. Shortly after that day we learned that the cancer was back, and this time with a vegenance. He put up quite a fight but in the end it was too much and his body gave out. Cancer had taken him at the age of 42. He left behind 3 beautiful daughters and a loving wife.
I remember the last time that I saw him, he was in the hospital and looked very ill. I couldn't believe how much he had changed. I didn't know what to say, so the first thing that popped into my head was,"How are you doing?" He smiled and replied," Not too bad, it could be worse." I will never forget that. Even though he was close to the end he reamined the same person I loved. His outlook never changed, he remained strong until the end.
If he could stay strong through out his battle with cancer then I can train for a half marathon and raise money to help find a cure for blood cancers.
