June 10, 2010
On June 6, 2010, I officially completed my first full marathon! It was such an honor to run along side my 43 teammates from the Gateway Chapter and the 4,000 teammates from across the country who were also supporting the fight against blood cancers! There were 30,000 participants in all with 4,000 of those being "purple people eaters" from Team in Training. We all supported each other in order to get across that finish line. It was an emotional event as people who you didn't even know would run up to you and say thank you for all of our fundraising efforts. Together our team rasied over $150,000 and all 4,000 TNT participants raised over $12 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!! Throughout the race I kept thinking about my honored teammates; Jay, Caleb, Bill, Nikko, Rodney, and Morgan. I also thought about others who came to mind throughout the race and ran miles for them as well. I am so proud of all that my teammates have accomplished and I thank you all for your wonderful support and encouragement!

We did it! Both Jay and I have officially met our fundraising goals! Together we have raised $7,000 and we are not finished yet! We still have a big Trivia Night fundraiser coming up that we are very excited about so let's see if we can hit $10,000 before the end of June!!

Halfway there!! This week marks the halfway point in our training as far as miles go! Last week we completed 12 miles and next week we will do 14. Jay and I both participated in the Go! St. Louis Marathon today and it was a nice challenge in order to get ready for San Diego. Jay completed his half marathon in 1 hr 50 min! Super fast!! I was a part of a relay team and I ran the 3rd leg, which was 7.5 miles, in 1hr 35 min!
Fundraising is going very well and we have several fundraisers ahead of us. Jay and I will be hosting a Trivia Night and siilent auction in June to raise additional funds for the LLS!!
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of my husband, a 3 year leukemia survivor, and all other individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My husband was diagnosed with APL, a very aggressive form of leukemia, in December 2006. We were just days away from celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary when Jay noticed that a small scratch from our dog had caused his finger to swell. My husband is active duty Air Force so when the base doctors examined his finger and ran a routine blood test, the results came back that he was in DIC. He was then rushed to Portsmouth Naval Medical center where he stayed for the next 5 weeks. It has been 3 years since my husband was released from the hospital and 3 years since he beat the cancer that nearly took his life. We both firmly believe that if it wasn't for the research funded by the LLS, my husband would not be here today and he certainly would not be running in this marathon with me. I am so proud of all that he has accomplished and I am so proud to be running with TNT in honor of him.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
