Welcome to Kim and Sarah's Disney World Marathon.
Call me crazy, but I am doing it again! Only this time, I am training to run a 13.1 mile half marathon with Team in Training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, January 11th in Orlando, Florida. I will be running in honor of local 6 year old blood cancer patient, Mary, and will raise funds to support research for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. In order to prepare for the marathon, I will have to train hard, but I will constantly be reminded that my effort is nothing compared to the challenges faced by the people who I am making this journey for: those suffering with the terrible effects of leukemia, lymphoma and other blood related cancers.
So how can you help? You can help by sponsoring me with your 100% tax deductible donation which helps to fund local medical researchers working to find cures and to provide resources to supporters and caregivers helping those suffering from leukemia and lymphoma. Your contribution will make a difference as great progress is being made.
I have set a goal to raise $3400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Just a little info... The five-year relative survival rate has nearly quadrupled in the past 48 years for patients with leukemia. However, the relative survival rates differ by the age of the patient at diagnosis, gender, race and type of leukemia. At the present time there are approximately 231,461 people living with leukemia in the United States. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested more than $600 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.
