Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the Tugaloo Triathlon (Swim 1.5k, Bike 42k, Run 10k) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am completing this event in honor of Keith Goree. Keith is a friend and coworker of my mom's at St. Pete College. Keith was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in October 2008. After a month or so of inpatient chemotherapy at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, he went in remission by late November. But the leukemia returned in early June 2009. His oncologist (Dr. Jeffrey Lancet) suggested a clinical trial for first-time relapsers. The trial researches the effectiveness of combining an established chemo drug (Cytarabine) with a new one (Voreloxin), and trying to determine the best dosage combinations. Keith is benefitting directly from the type of research that LLS has helped to fund and hopes that what is learned by his experience will help the many others who are battling blood cancers.
Sad Update:
Days before his 50th birthday Keith lost the battle with leukemia and died July 16, 2009. I will complete my event in memory of Keith and all thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Training Update (6/22/2009)
Yesterday, I competed in the Callaway Gardens Sprint Triathlon (0.25 mile swim, 9 mile bike, 2 mile run). It was my first triathlon. My goal going into the event was to complete it in under 1 hour. I crossed the finish line just before the 58 min mark. It was a lot of fun and I'm hooked now. The swim was definitely the hardest part.
