Racing to Save Lives
Hello my name is Kimberly Williams and welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Over the past 5 years I have participated in many Team in Training (TNT) events and raised money for The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society (LLS). In 2010, I am doing it again by volunteering my time to coach a team to run the San Diego marathon and also running the Seattle marathon as a participant. I am pledging not only to run all those miles but to raise $4200 for LLS.
When I first became a member of TNT, I did not have a personal connection to anyone who had been diagnosed with a blood cancer. However in 2009 that all changed when my husband's grandfather was diagnosed with Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML). Grover Cleveland Croft from Summerville, SC was in very good health until early 2009 when he was diagnosed with CMML. This is a rare form of leukemia that currently does not have many treatments options. It occurs mostly in the elderly and children younger than 6. We lost Granddaddy in September of 2009.
I am dedicating this race in Seattle to Grover Croft. My hope is that with the continued efforts of TNT and LLS a cure for blood cancers will be found so that none of the granddaddys, grandmamas, children and loved ones in our lives are lost or impacted by a blood cancer.
A marathon is 26.2 miles. That is a long way to run so you have to train for months to be ready to cover that distance. I am ready to train and run those miles and I am ready to beat blood cancers. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
So we have 10 more weeks until the San Diego marathon and 13 more weeks until the Seattle marathon. The weekly mileage is getting longer and I am feeling great.
I still need your help with reaching my fundraising goal. Any donation is greatly appreciated. If you live in the Atlanta area mark you calendars for May 15th for a great party and black jack tournament at our house all to benefit my fundraising.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my training progress. Thanks for your support!
