Becoming a Runner to Honor my Stunner
Jan 25, 2010 by Misha Leybovich
Thank you for stopping by my marathon fundraising page.
I am training for my first marathon, San Diego Rock 'n' Roll, in June with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. This run is in honor of my beautiful girlfriend Kate Barnes.
When Kate was 16, she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right leg. For two years she fought for her life. She had her knee and half of her femur replaced, went through intense chemo, and whiled away to below 100 pounds. Though there were very scary moments, she never doubted that she would prevail. Today, you would never know that she faced this ordeal. Kate rides horses, goes salsa dancing, and hikes through the woods because she refused to be bowed by this illness.
She was able to beat cancer because of her iron will, and thanks to top notch medical care. I know how important Kate is to me, and how infintely grateful I am that treatments were available for her type of cancer. This, sadly, is not yet the case for blood cancers. Leukemia or lymphoma could effect any of us or our loved ones. I want to do my part to support a cure so that someday some other dorky guy has the chance to date a cancer survivor who is also way out of his league.
Team in Training is a great organization. They are whipping my butt into shape for this run (which I aim to do in under 4 hours) and have raised over a billion dollars for cancer research over the last 20 years. Please help me help these guys help all of us. Let's do our small part together to keep blood cancer from taking more lives.
Please check out the "Make a Donation" box on the right. I promise you a difference made, a grateful boyfriend, and a big sweaty hug after one of my runs.
Thank you for your support!
*Occasionally this website gives a "browser unsupported" message when one tries to donate. Please try again later and it ought to work. If it still fails, please contact me and we will arrange an alternative method. Thank you so much!*
