Racing to Save Lives

This year I have signed on for another adventure. In June of 2010, I will be part of a Race Across America cycling team as a crew member. Our Team name is the Georgia Chain Gang, and as a crew member, I will be supporting a team of 4 riders. We are not only accomplishing this incredible feat of Racing Across America, but we also set a team goal to raise $200,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I have decided to join this effort alongisde my longtime friend, Warren Bruno. Warren was lucky enough to marry one of my best friends from both High School and College and one of the reasons I came to Atlanta in the first place (maybe his bar, Atkins Park was somewhere on that list as well!). Currently they provide a literal home away from home as my work takes me back to Atlanta on a quarterly basis but for the past 5 years we have also been able to share a growing passion for road biking.

Not only is Warren the crew chief for the Race Across America, Georgia Chain Gang Team, he is also a survivor. I have been able to witness fist hand the tremendous positive spirit that Warren has produced in his fight against lymphoma which has been an inspiration to me. A highlight for me was participating with Warren in the 2008 Pan-Mass challenge which to date has raised close to $300 million for cancer research. As a cyclist I am amazed at what these four guys are going to accomplish in RAAM ride. As a friend and admirer of Warren I want to contribute as much as I can as a crew member but more importantly want to be a part of the doing something to help fight this disease by raising money and awareness towards funding research and finding a cure.
