Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does. -William James
My dad thought my new "running thing" was neat. He thought a bunch of us raising money for research was "cool." But when I talked to him about running for Kate as a hero, he was proud. He told me how amazing it must feel for this little girl to know that there was an army of people running just for her, giving her hope. He got choked up when he talked about it. He knew that there was power in this crazy thing we do---running for a cure. He got it, just as we Team in training people get it when there is a survivor on the course that mouths "thank you" as we run by.
My dad, my best friend, died suddenly this winter. I have only begun to accept it. My Team in Training family has been there every step of the way, just the way they are on the race course. The first thing I saw when I walked into the most difficult room I have ever walked into was a huge spray of flowers...purple flowers... with "love your TNT family" sticking out of them. It felt like a big hug, a rush of love. I hope that's what it feels like to our heroes when they see us in our purple.
When the chance to run again in San Francisco came about, I didn't hesitate. I want to run for hope and love. I want to raise money and help develop medicines like Gleevek and Vincristine which were funded by TNT fundraising (two treatments that helped my friend Sarah become cancer free). I want to make my dad proud.
I am running for you, Kate and Annabelle.
Give a little.
Much love, Angela
"Never think you need to apologize for asking someone to give to a worthy cause, any more than as though you were giving him or her an opportunity to participate in a high-grade investment. The duty of giving is as much his or hers as is the duty of asking yours."
- John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
