Welcome back to my Team in Training home page! As you may know, I suffered an unfortunate injury this past January that kept me from running the ING Half Marathon with my sister, Lauren. While I did participate as a Team in Training cheerleader, I was unable to physically run the race. So, I have decided to train again for the Nike Women's Half Marathon on October 18, 2009 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am training in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers == and especially for my three personal heroes: Maddie, Daniel and Kate!
MADDIE is the four-year old daughter of my Chewonki teachers and wonderful friends, Brad and Emily. She has bravely battled Acute Lymphoblastic Lieukemia (ALL) for over a year now, while her mother Emily has been training for the Olympic Marathon Trials in her honor. She and her mother are both mentors to me in the marathon training process. Maddie's treatment has been difficult, but she is doing well and hoping for the best.
DANIEL is also four and was diagnosed with ALL in August of 2005. He is the youngest of eight children, and the son of one of my ING Atlanta marathon teammates. He is a fantastic cheerleader for our team, encouraging us on our group runs and passing out water & other essentials.
KATE is six years old and is the official honored hero for our 2009 Nike Team. She was diagnosed with ALL in April 2007 and has been a part of the Team in Training family ever since. Kate loves gymnastics, swimming and drawing == and her bright smile reminds us all of why we run.
We run for hope. We run for a cure. We run so the smiling faces on this page will see the future they deserve!
Please consider making a donation to support my participation with Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Thank you to the many friends and family who already donated to support Lauren and I last year. We are extremely humbled by your generosity and hope you will continue to follow our training progress through our blog:
