Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team in Training home page.

Hello Friends and Family-----

I'm training for the Nike, Women's 1/2 Marathon, Sunday October 19th, in San Francisco, California!!!!! I have never run that far before, so I am a little nervous, but am very excited! Let me tell you why.

As many of you know, I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, with my brother Tim. Being only 10 months older than me, we were very close. He was my best friend. I kept him on a pretty tall pedestal! Everything he did was amazing in my eyes.

Tim was always the amazing runner of the family, but I loved running too. We belonged to a youth track club when we were little called "Little Greens", through South Lincoln Track Club. We even went all the way to California one year for a National meet, thanks to an amazing coach named Winnie who helped us make that happen! Tim kept getting faster and faster, as I got a knee injury my junior year and they told me I had to stop running!

After high school, Tim enlisted in the Marines, right after boot camp, married his high school sweetheart Jodie. I also married a few years later. We both started having kids in 1993, then again in 1996; each of us had a boy and a girl. I kept going and had several more. I now have 6 amazing children!!!!

Being in the military Tim and his family lived in many places, presently living in Manhattan, Kansas. As I live in Atlanta, Georgia. Our lives are very different, but my heart still goes out to my brother. Sometimes you forget to tell the people you are close to how much you love them, or how much they mean to you.

God will give you a reason to remember!

2008 started out scary for Tim. He was diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer. Getting the call from Tim was the second scariest call in my life! (The first being the day my mom died!) Hearing the fear in his voice, worried me, him crying on the phone scared me, but knowing he is the strongest person I know, I was confident he would find strength to beat this.

Tim has undergone a total of 3 surgeries .Removing moles, and then realizing it had spread to his lymph nodes. After those were removed from under his right arm, he then jumped right into chemo therapy, and will continue that for a full year! He has defiantly had his good days and bad days, but is doing well.

In May, I ran a 5K race to help raise money specifically for Melanoma Cancer, in honor of Tim. I think raising money for ANY kind of cancer is important. Awareness is vital!

I am running 13.1 miles with Tim as my "honored hero" He is my inspiration. I am putting "TIM "on my race top!!!!

Training seems easy now--and maybe it will stay that way because I am running from my heart, and soul.

I hope you can help me get to my goal, to get to San Francisco.

Team in training is making this trip possible. I am defiantly hooked again on running. Having 6 kids just slowed my training down a few years! ---but catching up very fast. Since joining TNT in May, I am already up to 7 miles!!! My support team is my kids, and my husband! There is always someone to run with me or bike along side me! Did I mention they ALL run??? They are truly amazing!

Since running was such a big part of our lives growing up, honoring Tim through running now seems to be extra meaningful.

Please keep Tim on your prayer list.

Tim has always been my hero. Now I get to tell him why!

I also feel I have to add in my great friend Shannon, who I called up and said "Hey--want to go to SanFransisco in October?" and before asking why, she said "yes"....then I told her about the running part! (Anything for a trip! hahaha)

As a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I am running this 1/2 marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Have a very blessed day.

Live everyday to the fullest.

& remember to smile!

*****Think of me, Sunday October 19th.

Go runners!

Thanks for checking in.

Take care.

*** Up to 8 miles! ( totally by accident...I got lost) but those 8 seemed easy, so it shows me that I know I can do it.

Still crazy fundraising!

Getting excited.

More later.........

****Today, Saturday August 30th, I ran at the Chattachoochee River State Park, weather was perfect, I had Bailey & Gabby with me,(ages 12 &11) and we ran 10 miles!!!!!!! I was so proud of my kids--as well as myself. I have NEVER ran that far!!!! It was very easy, and we weren't even tired at the end! So that tell's me I can for longer. I am very encouraged now about my training. I feel good, and I am most proud of raising money for a wonderful cause!

Life is good!

**also today I told my two kids the "big surprise" --I am taking them with me to San Fransisco!!!!

They have been my training partners, and my encouagement, and I want them with me when I run. We have formed a little group!(...I also told them they have to go crazy helping me fundraise, to help pay for their ticket!!!!)

I feel on top of the world!

**I must also mention my 7 year old who just this week went for a run with me---and ran 4 miles!!!

My kids are so supportive and amazing.

I hope everyone checks my site regularly!

STILL CRAZY FUNDRAISING!!!!!!

Thanks!

Jill

****Sunday Sept. 28th Bailey, Gabby and I ran 13 miles!!!!! The weather was a little warm that day, but we seemed to get thru it just fine. It was a pretty easy run. I feel very confiedent to do the 1/2 marathon!!!!!

***My other great news is that I got the fund raiser grant I applied for from Sam's Club. I will be picking up a check for $1000 this week. WHOOPIE!!!!!! I am SO close to my goal now!
