I am training to participate in the Arizona Ironman November 20th 2011 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). As most of you know, I completed my first marathon with TNT in San Diego, CA June 2010 and my first 1/2 Ironman in Augusta, GA September 2010. I couldnt have done either of these without the TNT training and support. I have met a great group of individuals and want to continue in the fight against blood cancers by BECOMING AN IRONMAN with TNT. Team in Training raises money to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! I have chosen to become an ironman In Memory of my grandmother, Helen King, a.k.a. "Nana".
Nana was diagnosed in early 2005 with Mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer caused by asbestos. No it is not Leukemia but it is still cancer and I really want to become an Ironman for her. Not many had heard of Mesothelioma at the time. She went through many chemo treatments and had surgery in August to remove the tumor off her lung. She dropped weight quickly and the cancer came back. We admitted her to the hospital in November bc she was in horrible pain. After a few weeks of being in the hospital the doc said she didnt have much time and at the end of Nov we admitted her into a hospice. On Dec 4th 2005 she went home to be with the Lord and was pain free. She was more than a mother to me but my best friend and it hasnt been the same without her. She never missed a cheer competition, track meet, baseball game or football game and I can gaurantee she will be at that finish line in Arizona pulling me across!!!!
This is my first full ironman and I am very excited about being a part of Team In Training and running for a woman that inspired me in so many ways.
Ironman distance: swim = 2.4 miles, bike = 112 miles, run= 26.2 miles
Total of 140.6 miels!
I have set my goal at $8,500.00, which will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for research to help cure blood cancer, so that people can have normal lives and acheive their goals and dreams as athletes. Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers
75% of all money donated goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Over a $1 billion raised in 20 years
Over 380,000 athletes train through TNT
I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support. 100% of the donation is tax deductible. You will receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. You can also mail the donation to me directly at:
