Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page! Many of you may be confused as to why I'm training and fundraising for the Chicago Marathon, since I'm not exactly a champion runner. Let me tell you a little bit about why I'm embarking on this challenge!

Team In Training turned me into a triathlete last summer, and now I'm absolutely smitten with the sport. But if I want to take triathlon to the next level (ahem...Ironman...), I need to improve all of the individual components. If I can't run a marathon on its own, I definitely can't run a marathon after swimming and cycling! And if anyone can train and motivate me to run 26.2 miles (yep, you read that right), it's the folks at Team In Training.

More importantly, though, I have met so many inspiring people during my time with TNT, and they have pushed me to strive more, try harder, and be better. People like our summer tri honored hero, Danielle, who was diagnosed in September 2009, while 5 months pregnant, with Type B Non-Hodgkins Lymphona. She endured 4 rounds of special Chemo doing whatever it took to keep Collins growing and get her strong enough to come into the world (Collins was born strong and healthy and has been growing ever since). People like Jill, one of my tri teammates, who comes out to training despite her own continuing struggles with lymphoma (she just found out in February that her cancer is back). There are so many stories like Danielle's and Jill's, and if they can survive and THRIVE, then I can run a puny little marathon. ;-)
