Megan Lutz's Most Beautiful Bike Ride

The Results are In!
May 28, 2012 by Megan Lutz

I hope you are all having a safe and happy Memorial Day. I am writing to, once again, thank you all for your support and generosity this year. Thanks to you, I have raised nearly $5,000 toward the fight against blood cancers since January this year. You are all amazing!

And now, for the results:

There were a total of 1132 raffle in the pot (people in my current household were ineligible to win). Each person was allocated ticket numbers according to the number of chances they had purchased. A random number from the U[1,1132] distribution was drawn (with my back to the computer so there was no bias) and the person with that ticket number was declared the winner.

And, that winner is (those winners are): Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCullough!

Thank you, again! I look forward to offering another quilt raffle in the future (next year), so please keep your eyes on your e-mail! In the meantime, please continue to read my training blog to see my progress. We ship off to Tahoe this weekend for our ride, so in the next couple of weeks keep an eye out for my ride recap.

Quilt Raffle - Last chance to enter!
May 25, 2012 by Megan Lutz

Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you have done this spring. Your support and encouragement have made this tough season bearable and more than worthwhile.

This past week, the Atlanta community and the Georgia Team in Training Cycle team lost a friend to lymphoma. Warren Bruno was our team's honored hero last year, and his memorial service was standing room only. We lost an icon, a man who truly lived and led by example, and he is sorely missed. As we ride in Tahoe, he and countless others will be in our hearts and minds: in his words "To try is to live". We are trying to cure this horrible disease so that we lose fewer great men like Warren.

I tell you about Warren not to sadden you, but to show that however great one's spirit and fight is, it's not enough on its own. We've come a long way, but there's still a long way to go. On Sunday (May 27) I will hold the drawing for the quilt raffle. This weekend only, donations made to my Vegas fundraising efforts will count toward the raffle (website below), according to the same schedule:

$5 = 1 chance

$20 = 5 chances

$50 = 15 chances

$100 = 50 chances

Quilt Update!
Apr 13, 2012 by Megan Lutz

As you loyal readers all know, ARA finished the quilt. It arrived, quilted and bound, earlier this week, and in person it is even more lovely than in the photos. This is the first time that the raffle quilt will have been completed BEFORE the raffle drawing itself. You lucky devils!

Many special thanks to ARA for making such a beautiful quilt (her blog can be found here, where you can see other projects she is working on) and to her friend Lynn, of Lynn's Obsession, for completing the beautiful quilting itself.

ARA and Lynn have both done a number of charity quilting projects. Last year, Lynn made (from start to finish) 87 quilts to be donated to the Wilkes-Barre VA hospital for the Jimmy Project, so named for her brother (much of the fabric was from her own stash, and another...300? yards was donated by a local quilt shop). Some photos, that don't do the volume of work required justice, are here. ARA has participated in another project, which involves making quilts for returning wounded veterans. I am grateful to have so supportive and active a family (and that they, in turn, have such wonderful friends).

Remember, all it takes is a $5 donation to be eligible for the raffle. The full schedule of prices:

$5 = 1 chance

$20 = 5 chances

$50 = 15 chances

$100 = 50 chances

The drawing will be held on or around Memorial Day, and I will notify the winner by e-mail and announce it here in the blog as well. The quilt is 100% cotton with a polyester batting. It measures 74" by 87" (it's HUGE!)

May the odds be ever in your favor!

Refund Rally
Apr 08, 2012 by Megan Lutz

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. As you know, tax season is in full bloom, meaning you are likely flush with your refund. I know you are sitting there, with loads of money from the government, just baffled as to how best to spend it.

I'll tell you how: donate it! That'll show 'em!

That's right, anything you donate to LLS via this page:

is 100% tax-deductible. You'll get them coming and going!

That's right, for the remainder of April, it's the 2012 Refund Rally to benefit Team in Training and the 1,000,000 Americans who are currently living with the specter of blood cancer.

Thanks, again for your support in getting us as far as we've gotten. There's still a long way to go.
