It's hard to believe the season is more than half over. I've become quite attached to weekend training hikes and the chance to spend time with my wonderful teammates / new friends! And thanks to ALL my friends and family, I have met 59% of my fundraising goal. Who will step up to show support and help me reach 100%? Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Two hikes down and I'm having a blast! The biggest highlight so far over the past month has been the people I've met: LLS staff, coaches, mentors and fellow teammates. All amazing people, all dedicated to raising as much money as possible to make a difference for cancer patents and their families.

One particular person I've had the pleasure of meeting is Gary - our team's Honored Hero. Gary is a 3 time cancer survivor! He was first diagnosed with Lymphoma in 1993 and again in 2001 and 2010. Despite this, I have to tell you - Gary's energy, spirit and sense of humor is infectious. His words say it all:

"I am a 3 time cancer survivor. I realize just how fortunate I am. I believe that it is important to not only have excellent doctors and treatments but also a strong support system and an incredible will to beat this terrible disease!"

Gary and his wife, Cornelia, are hiking and training right along with the team ... every step of the way! What great inspiration to me - especially in the morning, when I'd much prefer to roll over, stay warm and sleep a bit more vs. hop up and hit the trail.

2012 is the year I am lacing up my hiking boots and hitting the trails! For the last several years I have selected a single word to represent my theme for the year. This year's word is "Engage." What does that mean? I intend to fully engage with family, friends, clients, new experiences ... with life! What better way to accomplish this than to join Team in Training.

Over the next several months I will be preparing to participate in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

My personal goal is to raise $5,000 for this wonderful organization and, at the same time, experience the thrill of hiking as many miles as possible with my team at Yosemite on June 16. By participating, not only am I improving the quality of my life, but I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well with your generous support.
