Welcome to my Team In Training Fundraising Home Page!
In April of 2003, my brother John was diagnosed with Lymphoma. After several visits to doctors at home left him with no answers, he had to travel to Philadelphia to get his diagnosis . And now 10 years later, I want to celebrate his strength and courage by running the Philadelphia Marathon (26.2 miles) in his honor. The training I will be doing and miles I will run will pale in comparison to the many rounds of radiation, years of chemo, scans and doctor visits that he has gone through.
I have set a lofty goal this year and once again will ask for your support. $10,000.00 to honor 10 years! Your love and support in the past have been so appreciated and I hope you will be able to continue that support again this year. No donation is too small or too big!
I have a mission-to do what I can to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in this endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, we can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. Thank you once again from the botom of my heart!
October 6 - Wow, we are at the $1,000.00 mark. Yeah!!! That is 1/10 of the way there! Thank you so much. Please feel free to pass my page and information on to anyone else that you think may want to donate. Just to let you know, my training is going well. My longest run so far is 16 miles! I had registered to run the Jersy Shore Half Marathon today, but the race was canceled due to the Government Shutdown. The park at Sandy Hook is a National Park. No worries though, I did my 13 miles today from the house. Boy was it humid!!!! I was drenched, but felt good!
October 18 - Thank you to everyone for your donations!!! You are a very generous group and I applaud you!! I'm pretty sure I had my last long run of my marathon training today. It was a 3 hour run and I did the entire workout on the Rt. 202 Parkway path. It is a new road that was built to resemble a windy, country road-and that means lots of hills!! But that was ok because I felt great!! Thanks to my coach's suggestion, I ate a bigger breakfast than usual and that helped to keep my energy up and my stomach feeling settled. Thanks Todd! The temperature was a little cooler and there was a pretty good breeze plus the scenery was beautiful!! 4 weeks until race day...Go Team!!!
October 31 - Happy Halloween and the last day of October!! That means lots of sweets and only a little over two weeks until the marathon. My training will start to taper after this weekend's long run, but I still have a lot of work ahead. Thank you to all who have donated-I love you all!! So far we are about a third of the way to our goal! I will continue to fundraise even past my event and will keep you updated!
November 13 - Only 4 days until the marathon!! Our last team practice was Saturday and we got to run parts of the course on Kelly Drive, Falls Bridge and MLK Drive. It was pretty chilly, but thankfully they are calling for temperatures in the high 50's and low 60's on Sunday. Great for running and not bad for spectating! Thank you to everyone that has donated to this point. I will continue my fundraising efferts for 60 days after my race in hopes of getting close to my $10,000 goal. For right now though, I am getting in Marathon Mode!!! More to come after the race!
November 20 - Yeah! I finished and could still walk!!! My 5:12 was slower than I had hoped for, but we had a great time in Philly. I'm so proud of my brother and it was honor to run for him as well as for your loved ones. I'm still short on my fundraising but will work on that over the next month or so. Thank you soooo much for all of your donations, support and good wishes!! None of this would be possible without your generosity year after year.
