Yes, I signed up to fundraise and train for an Olympic Distance Triathlon with Team in Training. This is my sixth year training and fundraising for TNT. The support of friends and family over the past 6 years has enabled me to complete a 2 Marathons (2004 & 2005), 2 Half Marathons (2006), and a 100-mile Century Ride (2008) with TNT! But most importantly your donations over the years have added up to over $25,000!!! Wow!!

I am asking you once again to support me in my training and fundraising . I have committed to raise $3300 this year by the end of the summer. Each donation helps accelerate cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and brings hope to the patients and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these diseases.

Why do I do this? Lots of reasons, but most importantly in memory of my Uncle Eddie. Eddie died of Hodgkin Lymphoma only 2 years before I was born. In the late 60s, chances for survival were small, but now, Hodgkin Lymphoma is one of the most curable forms of cancer!

Your support does make a difference. Here are just a few advances that your donations to TNT have made since its inception in 1987:

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia:

• 1987: Five-year survival was less than 55%.
• 2007: With the use of the targeted drug Gleevec, five-year survival is 95%, with high quality of life.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma:

• 1987: Five-year survival was 52%.
• 2007: Targeted drugs such as Rituxan have increased five-year survival to 63%, with dramatic improvements in patients quality of life.

Myeloma:

• 1987: Five-year survival was 12%.
• 2007: Five-year survival has nearly tripled with the use of Revlamid and Velcade, with major increases in patients quality of life.
