First week of training ...
Jun 02, 2011 by Sherwin Gerry Gazmin

I survived the first team swim practice ... go me !!!

So, check out the excerpt from my email, regarding last nights swim practice;

Distance 1100m - (I think if you add it up ... it's really 1400m - but who's counting?)

Warm up

1 x 200m Freestyle Swim, rest 0:10

Build up

2 x 100m Freestyle Swim (kick every 4th 25m), rest 0:10 / 100m

Main Set (x3)

2 x 50 m Drill (50 m Slide Glide / 50 m Catchup), rest 0:10

2 x 100m Freestyle Swim (tempo), rest 0:10 / 100m

Warm down

100 m Easy

Yup ... I gotta admit .. I almost fell off my chair !!! I was about to respond to Liz and bail out or just respond 'Are you kidding me?'

The swim is where I really need work out of the 3 disciplines, but Coach Steve keeps drilling into me that I'll be fine, and he'll get me to the finish line and I just gotta trust him .. right?

Anyway ... I didn't end up at the bottom of the pool, and I think I did most of this .. so all in all, it must have been a productive practice.

Team run tonight ... then off to Cali for the Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon this weekend. Should be fun with all the family in town.

BTW ... we've exceeded my fundraising goals, but we have until October ... so le't see if we can't blow this thing out of the water. I'm totally leading the fundraising for my team ... so help keep me at the top !!!

Thanks for the support ... I'll need it for the next 5 months !!!

Come join me on my journey ...
May 13, 2011 by Sherwin Gerry Gazmin

Did I catch your curiosity yet? Read on ... and let me tell you what this journey entails.

I am training for the Soma Half Ironman as a member of Team in Training (TNT). This group is part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a non-profit organization dedicated entirely to finding a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, Myeloma and other related diseases. I am looking to you for your generous support and contribution.

I have committed to raise $2500 to support the cause, and would love your support. Your donation will help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission in finding cures and saving lives.

This event will be held in Phoenix, AZ on October 23rd, 2011 and will be the longest endurance event I have ever attempted. It will be a 1.2 Mile Swim, 56 Mile Bike and a 13.1 Mile Run … whew I’m tired just thinking about it. To help me through this grueling event, my coaches at Team in Training have promised to get me to the finish line, as long as I stay committed to our 22 week training program. These coaches are all part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Everyone on my team is doing their part in raising funds to help find a cure.

You can make a donation on my personal website and training page:

I’ve decided to honor and dedicate my training and my achievements/accomplishments to my sister-in-law, Vincenzina, who was diagnosed with melanoma last year in her 5th month of pregnancy. I’m happy to share that she gave birth to a healthy baby boy in June 2010 and has decided to have cancer LIVE with her as opposed to her living with cancer.

Isn’t this a worthwhile journey? Come follow me on as I blog about my experiences, progress, and of course my aching body.

Thanks for taking the time …

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
