Welcome to my Team In Training home page. I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! My Grandma, Ione Vanderlin, was diagnosed with Leukemia in her mid-eighties and because the treatment for the disease is harder on an elderly person than the disease itself, she was left to just let the disease run its course. Well, I am "running" my own course in Seattle to help raise money so that people who are my Grandma's age don't have to sit around and let some disease take over because there isn't a treatment that is less harsh on the body. Please help me reach my goal so that I can go walk my heart out for 13.1 miles in memory of my Grandma. I have passed the double digit mark and completed 10 miles on 5/23. That was pretty exciting! The only negative thing is that practice is at 5:30am for the rest of the season because of the heat. Anyone who knows me at all knows that I am anything but a morning person so for me to get up that early means a whole lot!! It's only downhill from here in regards to mileage. The big day is approaching..... Send some happy thoughts and strength my way on June 27, 2009 as I walk the Rock N' Roll Seattle 1/2 Marathon. It is such a awesome feeling when you step over the finish line knowing that you have completed the race and raise money for a great cause : ) "
