Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

My Grandma, Ione Vanderlin, was diagnosed with Leukemia in her mid-eighties and because the treatment for the disease is harder on an elderly person than the disease itself, she was left to just let the disease run its course. Well, I am "running" my own course right here at home to help raise money so that people who are my Grandma's age don't have to sit around and let some disease take over because there isn't a treatment that is less harsh on the body. Please help me reach my goal so that I can go walk my heart out for 13.1 miles in memory of my Grandma.

This isn't my first time being on this Team....my first event was the Seattle Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon in 2009. I had such a great experience; I am back as a Mission Captain for the second time, having just finished up a season training with our group going to San Diego and Seattle and adding another half marathon to my TNT belt in San Diego. Now, I want to experience a home race with TNT here in Phoenix. My job as Mission Captain is to make sure all our participants remember why they are raising money and how people are affected by blood cancers as well as by the donations we raise for LLS.

Send some happy thoughts and strength my way on January 16, 2011 as I walk the PF Chang’s Rock N' Roll Phoenix 1/2 Marathon.
