Mike Hughes is doing a triathlon? What?
Yes, it is true! many of you know, I'm training to participate in the Nation's Triathlon in Washington, DC on September 12, 2010 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training. In January of 2010, I started running as a way to get into shape and get out of the house a bit. It wasn't long before I was hooked and signed up for the PF Chang's 1/2 Marathon in San Diego on June 6th. When I heard about Team in Training, the idea of training for an event AND raising money for an amazing organization was really inspiring. In the first meeting we watched a video about the training and one thing a coach said still resonates with me today, "The first mile is the worst, but it's nothing compared to what the people you're running for deal with on a daily basis".
Along with my teammates, I am raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I have committed to complete this triathlon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
The fact of the matter is that everyone will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, one way or another. Every dollar counts, all you need to do is donate and you're welcome to come down and watch me swim a mile in the Potomac, ride 25 miles through DC and run another six miles. I'll do all the heavy lifting, you just need to donate.
