Racing to Save Lives
Dear Adoring Fans,
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Sean and I are currently in training for the Nation’s Triathlon on September 14, 2008. As members of Team In Training, we are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
We are both very excited and also a little intimidated by this endeavor. We have just begun our training and are frequently finding ourselves out of breath. We push on for all those individuals who are battling blood cancers.
Our Honorees
We find inspiration in our honorees. Gabbi is 10 years old and has been in remission from leukemia for 7 years now. Dawn Kulesa, one month after completing the Big Sur Marathon, was diagnosed with Stage IV Non Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma in 2007. Dawn did not achieve complete remission, however she refuses to let cancer put her on the sideline. She is continuing to train for the Honolulu Marathon this December. Alex lost her battle to lympoma at a young age of 13. We are competing in her memory and in honor of her family. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Additional honorees.
It has been suprising the number of people that have been affected by cancer. Many people have made donations on behalf of a loved one. I want to add them to my honoree list.
In memory of Christine Atzen. Cousin who tragedy took her from us at a too youthful age.
In memory of Judy Jones. Lost her battle to leukemia in 1972.
In honor of Gerald Biolchini. Currently fighting the battle of Leukemia.
In honor of Sue Grendahl. Breast cancer survivor.
In memory of Figaro.
In honor of Latisse. Survivor of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
I plan on having the names of all honorees printed on ribbons. I will carry them with me on race day. They are all truly inspirations and reminders of how precious life is.
You can become a member of my team by making a donation on my behalf!
If you don’t already know, the Nation’s Triathlon is an Olympic distance race. It includes a 0.9 mile swim, 25 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run for a whopping 32.1 miles!
Training Update
July 17
Sorry it has been so long since the last update. Well July is half over. Our training has been kicked up a notch.
Biking= On July 4th, I participated in the Children's Tour of Tucson. It was a 27 mile bike race. Many Team in Training members participated. It was great experience knowing what it is like to ride in a large group of people. The start was a bit rough. My bike shorts got caught on the seat and I nearly fell over. Luckily, I pulled it together because I would have taken out many unexpecting people with me!!
Swimming= The pools the place to be when it is 109 degrees outside! Our coaches are pushing us hard. I have been swimming 2000 yards at practice. (thats well over a mile).
Running= Running has also been bumped up. Been running 4-5 miles at least twice a week. This weekend we are going to run at Sabino Canyon for a 7+ mile run. This first half is uphill! Wish me luck.
FUNDRAING UPDATE
Although, the numbers on this website may not reflect it, my fundraising is going well. I have received several contributions and letters of support by mail. I am about half way to my fundraising goal thanks to the generosity of my family and friends.
I have been baking dog treats (Veggie Bones and Peanut Butter roll-ups) and selling them at work to my clientelle. It has been a succeessful endeavor.
I am also planning a raffle. I will be raffling off my veterinary services including wellness exam, elective surgical procedures, etc. Science diet has graciously donated a year supply of dog or cat food to be included. I am working on our pharmaceutical reps to donate products. I hope it to be a successful fundraiser and a benefit to our clients and their pets!
I will announce when raffle tickets go on sale!
