Running For The Cure

Jun 05, 2012

Wow the past year has been a very interesting one. A month before i started working at the Hotel my uncle, my mom's last remainding sibling, passed of a brain tumor. I started work at the Hotel and met an amazing family. I got to know them, and befriend them. Next thing I know, Ava, their youngest daughter, is diagnosed with Leukemia.

I remember being at the hospital moments after Shannon had received the news about Ava's condition. In the short interactions we had, I felt useless and I didnt know how to react. I tried to give small gifts and make kind gestures but I still felt the need to do something more.

I was visiting with my parents one day when my mom showed me a piece of mail sent to my sister about Team In Training. I read through it and called that day to set a time to meet with the organizers. I went to a small presentation where the program was thoroughly explained. This by far was the most exciting and fufilling thing I'd heard of. I was sold.

It is a comfort to know that i will be working with great people and that as a team, we will accomplish our goals. People are affected by different cancers but once one is cured the rest will come. That being said, Team In Traing is the biggest charitable donation organization of it kind , so please help me fight cancer.

Thank you so much for your charity, and many people will hopefully never start their first chemo treatmemt because of it.

Almost twelve years ago, I was once told, lying on the side of the road, by an EMT, I was the only survivor of a terrible car accident. The following 24 hours still to this day are a blur, but I remember how the charity and care of those around me got me through the initial shock of being ejected from a van on the freeway. Over the next year I saw tons of doctors, all of which told me that I would never be able to walk normally, heaven forbid run. Friends, family, and strangers lent their support and helped me through many pain staking; tear inducing days, never with the expectation of anything in return. Now, contemplating the feat of running a half marathon, is nothing compared to seeing one person suffer from blood cancer. I am so grateful for the charity given me by others that got me to where I am today, and I hope that OUR efforts through Team In Training will one day help US cure cancer. Thank you so much for your support!!!

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how many people have been affected by cancer. As I truck along to collect donations for TNT, people keep telling me their incredible stories of recovery from cancer, or how seeing a loved one battle cancer has changed them. Saturday was our first team training event and one of the gentlemen on my team just so happened to be celebrating a year since his remission that very day. How honored I am to have him on my team, and how honored I am to be working with such an amazing organization such as Team in Training.

Thank You!

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
