Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program and I'm asking you to help by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. I am training with the local chapter of Team in Trainings cycling team to ride my bicycle along with over 3000 Team in Training cyclists from all over the country around Lake Tahoe on June 6. Not only is the ride 100 miles in distance, it starts at an elevation of 6,200 ft, with a climb to over 7,000 ft in elevation along the way to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) achieve their mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Around Christmas my boss Ron was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL); the rarest of the non Hodgkins lymphomas, it is a very aggressive and incurable form of lymphoma. Over the last few weeks, I have learned much about this cancer, and how hard it can be on both a patient as well as their family. Needless to say, everyone feels helpless when it comes to facing the harsh reality of a battle against cancer. He completed the 1st round of chemotherapy in February. We were thrilled that Ron, his wife Sharon, his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter were able to join David & I at the Honored Heroes Picnic on March 13! He is now back in the hospital currently undergoing the 2nd round of chemo. I have known Ron for several years, and I can't even begin to count how many times I was in his office asking for advice, problems, questions, etc. and no matter how big or small or trivial the issue always given a kind word, patience and sound advice for whatever I brought to him even up to his last day at work before taking his leave. He is a remarkable person whom I admire greatly. Ron is my Personal Hero, his grace and strength motivates and inspires me.
This is where I have chosen to do what I can do to help find a cure. The day after we were informed of his diagnosis, I signed up with TNT to do what I could to honor and support the challenges that Ron, his family, and all those affected by blood cancers are facing.
However, I need your help. I have pledged to raise a minimum of $4,400 over the next few months that will directly fund medical research and treatment of blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a 501 c (3) charitable organization, so 100% of your donation is tax-deductible!
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
