Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I am training to participate in a 100-mile bike ride as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. The June,7th ride is touted as being the World's most beautiful bike race and will take me 72 miles around Lake Tahoe and another 28 miles to Truckee, CA and back!
John Klaus: My Inspiration
My inspiration for the 100-mile ride (and all of the grueling training that precedes it) is my friend, John Klaus. John was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in October 1996. Even my own father, Jerry Mapes, was diagnosed with a rare form of myeloma that would have taken his life had he not died of other causes.
Because of research that is funded by donations from people like you, promising therapies continue to be developed that greatly extend and increase the quality of life of those affected. The RESEARCH is KEY to finding a cure.
Here's to John! He's my motivation in helping me to train hard and to raise funds to help STOP leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am asking for your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

I want to thank everyone for the incredible level of support and encouragement that I've received since I've been involved with Team in Training. It has been a life changing experience for me and we're still almost 6 weeks out from race time! Invariably someone will share a story with me about a family member or friend whose life is being affected by these deadly blood cancers and I am truly humbled to be a part of something so much bigger than all of us! Thank you all again for your generous contributions!
