Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

As many, if not all of you know, June 12, 2000 I was diagnosed with ALL, a form of Leukemia. For 3 years, I underwent chemo, and on September 18, 2003 I was fortunate enough to be relieved of all chemo sessions. So here we are, 5 years later, no big deal, right? Wrong. September 18, 2008 5 years after I stopped chemo i will be offically "Cured." To make that weekend just that much more special, I will be riding the Tri State Seacoast Century ride with the Team.

Please make a donation to support not just me, but the thousands of people nationwide, who have been touched by cancer. Be a part of something so much bigger than yourself

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.

Thank you so much for your continued support and thoughts and prayers!

Updates:

May 18- May 18th marked my first unofficial ride with my Team. The Bloomin Metric Century went from one of my favorite routes to the one i will hate the most for a long time! Somewhere between the 4 hours of sleep i got the night before (thanks in large part to junior prom) and the 19% grade on one of the many climbs, i have grown to really love my choice of riding Seacoast where its supposed to be flat : D. All in all Bloomin' was a really good day and i set some new personal records. 40 mph on a pretty sweet descent is my new record for speed, and 62 miles is about 20 or so miles longer than my longest ride before that.

Stay Tuned for some new updates!

June 8, 2008- HOTT!!

Todays make up group ride for me was 27 solo miles in the hottest weather i have ever riddena bike in for that long. Everything felt good and was kinda missing some company at about mile 23, when i stumbled (i dont know if you can do that on a bike, but whatever) upon this gent who was having a tough time on this little speed bump...or the farmington ave hill. i came up to his wheel and decided to ask how he was doing, in which a grunted "pretty good"

came out. i had a water bottle just to dump on myself which i offered and he took, dumped some and gave it back with a gracious sigh. so i guess thats all that really happend today. I had Sat's yesterday in case you were eondering why i already had to make up a ride on the first day. but thats how life is. too much to do and not enough time to do it. Anyway, i guess thats about it for now

Today was my first real ride with the team for seacoast. 35 miles was the schuduald distance, but we did about 37ish or so because of a downed pole in the middle of the road, or so i heard. i didnt get the full story. it was pretty fun i must admit to get out and fly for the first 25 miles or so..then not as much fun as i blew up. i recoverd and took off again with the reds. all in all it was a really fun day on the bike.

more to come next week.

i rode about 20 really hot/wet miles (no, not due to rain...)

Im not a big fan of these furry little critters that run halfwa across the road then turn back only to stop and turn back again. Todays 45 mile ride had no shortage of excitement for a bit. We had a pretty close pack (all 5 of us reds) ascending this little hill when our furry little friend came darting out of the bushes. It was one of those thigs where you knew what was about to happen, yrt you could do nothing about it because it happend so fast. The little dude ran head on and luckily bounced out of Laura's front wheel only to try it again with the rear...only he was so lucky, nor was Laura, nor was I. I happend to be tucked in behind her and next to somone else (i dont remember) when the little thing got jammed into the seat stays causing Laura to go down right infront of me. I tried the best i could to avoid it but ended up throwing myself into a little leafy, grassy, muddy area on the side of the road..about 3 feet infront of a wodden cover to something infront of a metal pole. Lucky!

mmmmm other than that the ride was good.

Till next time - Kyle

Todays 50 mile gts(or r) (group training session, or ride) was not one of the best I have ridden. The first 25 or so miles was a bit annoying i guess you could say. I just didnt feel right, something was off. I had been batteling some type of stomach thing too, so im sure that it didnt help me in any way. The second 25 was a lot better however because the road went up. i know i wasnt so thrilled with the hills in may, but now i have grown to love it when the road tilts up a wee bit. Some pretty nice climbs split our group a bit, and i came "home" (or back to the parking lot) with some time to relax until the rest of the team got home.

The heat was really bad however. I was very thankful to have refils of endurance and gatorade as well as a water bottle that was filled with ice cold water for dumpage purposes : D

All in all the day started bad, turned worse, but then came back to decent.

July 21, 2008

Thats exactly what i needed. A really good ride today got the spirits back up from this weekends not so good ride. A couple more solo sessions before the 55 on saturday. hopefully i will have a little something extra then this past ride.

July 31, 2008

Im a few days off but oh well

Last weekends 55 was a pretty fast one. i think we averaged around 16.7 something like that which is pretty fast considering the second half of the ride was, yep you guessed it...up hill. it seems that every street name with 'hill' in it is always up hill...why is there never a downhill one? anywho, it was really good to fly and feel great doing it. whatever was bothering me last week was gone and i was feeling really good for 53 solid miles..unfortunatly the ride was 55.

sat night i had an allnighter at laser quest (quick explanation...your in a "maze" type thing with other people, you wear a pack that has sensors, you get hit you lose points, you hit you gain paoint, most points = win.) from midnight sat to 6 sunday morning was spent playing laser tag with a few of my friends along with 24 other people. it was a lot of fun, but that nap sunday morning felt really good!

if anybody missed it as well, Carlos Sastre took yellow into paris while my boy Christian VandeVelde finished 5th overall..not bad considering he wasnt supposed to be anywhere near to top 15 : D

bed time, Later all

August 14

so i havnt written in a while mainly because, well i just havnt last weekends ride wasnt exactly what i wanted it to be. i had hurt my ankel soit made standing and walking tough, but then made riding a bike even tougher. every little bump shot straight through into my leg which wasnt any fun. but we set out for 60 miles and it was quite an adventure. we were hitting dirt roads, steep climbs and the very very hated washboard road. they were repaving the road so it was that rough stuff that shakes you in a car, yea it bounces you on a bike..not fun on a good feeling day..but when the smallest bump hurt, those killed me. but i got through them. we had reached the second stop at about mile 46? i believe when i sat down and put my foot up to put some ice on for 5 mins or so, when i was not asked to, but orderd by my coach and the rest of the reds to park it for the day..i was not happy at all lol, but they were right in that save it for that day, ride again another day. that was sat. monday i got out for a 15 mile ride still in a lil bit of pain. wed i got out and did 15 with my dad and was in some pain but not tooo much until we got to this part with huge bumps..not fun. but i felt good enough to launch an atack a mile from home and held him off for my first weekday ride with dad win! : D haha. as im writing this the rain is coming down, the bike is clean and waiting to go out hopefully tonight. this is the worst. if your a cyclist you would understand what a clean bike will do to you..you just want to ride it! except i may need a snorkel and flippers...

8/30

Today was supposed to be 75 miles, or 25, or 50, or whatever anybody wanted. It ended up being 0! As we sat in the parking lot and couldnt see the ground because of the rain Coach Dad made a very smart descision and sent the team home. It didnt make sence risking a crash on the slick roads. If a couple of the more expierenced people were there they may have tried to coax him into a 25 or so, but nope. So i came back to the beach house threw on the rain stuff and headed out for 30, mostly wet miles. but that just makes you a stronger, better rider.

The countdown ahs started. 3 weeks from today is the big event! 12 days from now is a huge event! My BIrthday! but also my last trip to the hospital for blood work! im so ready to be done with it. September 18th is the day i have been waiting for for 5 years. The biggest day of my life.
