Cancer Sucks! Approximately every 4 minutes, one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
My 2014 “Do Over” Challenge
Is to raise even more money for LLS and cycle the Blooming Metric (60miles) then two weeks later hike Yosemite. Training will be grueling for 4 months. 3-5 hrs of training on Saturdays and 3-5 hrs of training on Sundays, not counting during the week training sessions. (Chemo is much worse)
Why the "Do Over" Challenge?
My 100 mile Tahoe mishap 6/2013. After 16 weeks of training I was up to 70 miles & 5300ft of hill climbing.3 weeks before Tahoe I suffered an Avulsion Fracture of my left Ankle. I wasn't ready to give up on Tahoe. The day before the big ride, I took my walking cast off and I did a 10 mile test ride. (I'm a bit crazy;)- I did cross the finish line on my test ride;)- But there was no way I could do the 100 miles the next day.
10 mile test ride
Coach Jim
2013 had a record-breaking 7,763 customized clinical trial searches conducted using LLS resources and you and I helped make this happen. This alone makes the effort and the disappointment of not riding all the more worthwhile and I am more determined then ever. Hence my 2014 “Do Over” challenge. I am committed to helping LLS in the quest for cures for blood cancers. One Pedal, One step at a time.
Last season I was team captain of TEAM BREANA & we raised over 144,000. It is truly amazing to be a part of something so much bigger than yourself.

My story in a nutshell ;)
Over the past few years I have lost about 135lbs through diet and exercise, by walking, jogging, hiking, cycling and joining The CrossfitPlayground.
I have rheumatoid arthritis (R.A) since my early 20’s. I felt like a little old lady in a young woman's body. Slowly my R.A became better controlled. In the early years of being diagnosed with R.A. I gave up and allowed myself to gain a ton of weight.
I have now walked/run five half marathons and one full marathon
Before.
After.
I did not get here by myself and I have a strong need to give back. I'm a volunteer running coach for new runners. I coach a “walk your way to a half marathon” group. I’m also the race director for the Annual Sunshine Kids 5k+ and Kids Fun Run in the Middlefield CT. The Sunshine Kids foundation is for kids with all types of cancer..
2011 year was a crazy year for me.
I found out I had High Grade HGSIL (pre-cervical cancer) and had to have surgery.
The Hartford Marathon foundation awarded me along with 9 others, The Inaugural Elite Inspiration Role Model team 2011 award. I was on TV. Twice! Yippi!
I was awarded for my work on the Sunshine Kids 5k, weight loss and giving back to the community.
I was a mess waiting on biopsy results and everything else that goes with finding out you have HGSIL and having surgery. An acquaintance of mine who is a 2 time Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor, reached out to me. I knew he had cancer but I didn’t know him too well at that time. He truly is an inspiration to me and many, many others.
Brian Beaulieu is now a very dear friend. .
In the end, I realized how damn lucky I was. 1 in 100 get cervical cancer from HGSIL..
Your mind starts wondering why I got so lucky, 1 in a 100 isn’t that big of a margin..
Helping to save lives has now become my hobby.
I train for those who cannot. I train for those still fighting the fight and
for those who have passed and for all the families affected by cancer.
Cancer sucks!

Wow what a day! 5hrs 41min. Finally completed event 1 of my two TNT back to back events. My challenge for breaking my ankle last year just before Tahoe.
My bike Brenna got me through the Bloomin' Metric in one piece. Im pretty sure Brenna was with me keeping me safe from what could of been a gnarly crash. I can't thank my coaches past & present, teamates, friends and family for all their support. We rocked that Metric today.
GO TEAM!!!
Lost track where I left off on here. Up to 55 miles of cycling followed by 5 hour hikes the next day.. I am pooped! Random pictures of cycling and hiking. The sunshine kids race April 6th raised over $2000.00. And a little fun with my brother hiking.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
