The Spirit of the Thing
In September of 2008, I stood on the steps of the Capital Building and raised my bike high in triumph.
I had won, you see.
I had completed my very first Olympic triathlon, surpassed my fundraising goal for LLS, and moved from grief to glory.
In February of 2009, I watched, along with the rest of the Nation, as Barrack Obama, just an ordinary guy from Chicago, climbed those same steps and left them as our Nation's 44th president.
I listened rapt as he made a plea for Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and to answer the ever present call to service.
I re-signed with TNT the very next day, committing to The Spirit of Morgantown, a half iron distance triathlon.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides support and information for those diagnosed with blood cancers, thier loved ones and caregivers.
In addition, the society raises millions for Cancer research each year.
What higher service is there than one that changes lives?
