It’s been a busy year so far with still getting settled in our new house and a total of four weddings to attend this summer . Even with those exciting events, I decided it was time to take on a new challenge and sign up for the Marine Corps Marathon while raising much needed funds to find a cure for cancer.
I am currently training as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on the team are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. In addition to raising funds, we are training together as a team to complete 26.2 miles on October 22, 2017 in Washington D.C.
I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling cancer, but especially close to my heart is:
∙ Paul Tatum, Father-in-law, passed away in the July 15, 2015 of Non Hodgkin’s disease.
These people are my main source of inspiration to train and fundraise for my marathon. Keeping their stories in mind will keep me training, but I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Funds raised by Team In Training participants help to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma’s mission to cure blood cancers and improve the lives of patients and their families. Research funded by LLS has led to major advances in cancer treatment including chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants and oral targeted therapies.
Since its beginning in 1988, more than 625,000 participants have helped TNT and LLS raise more than $1.4 billion to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Advances in the treatment of blood cancers have also led to new treatments for other cancers. In fact, in the last decade, nearly half (19/39) of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA were first developed and approved to treat a blood cancer, and many of these were advanced with LLS support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. My goal is to raise $3000 by October 1, 2017 and to cross the finish line of my TNT event healthy and happy! I will keep you updated on my fundraising and training progress. Thanks in advance for your support!
Go Team!
