Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
TRAIN ENDURE ACHIEVE MATTER
On Sunday, May 19, 2013, I will be participating in the Black Bear Triathlon - an Olympic-distant event which consists of a 1500 meter swim in the Beltzville Lake, a 24 mile bike through the scenic mountains of the Poconos, and concluding with running a 10K; however, I will be swimming/biking/running for a reason more important than the personal challenge of completing my first triathlon.
To assist me with my training, I have (again) joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training program. This will be my second event as a LLS TNT team member, as I completed the San Diego Marathon in June 2011 with Team in Training. As a part of this cause, I have made the commitment to help raise money to support the LLS mission to "cure leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families". Nearly 75% of every dollar raised for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society goes directly back to patient services and cancer research. LLS-funded research has led to key advances in understanding blood cancers and has helped produce new treatments and enhance and prolong lives by those affected by these diseases which affect the bone marrow, blood cells, lymph nodes, and other parts of the lymphatic system.
Currently in the United States an estimated 1,325,578 people are living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, or myeloma. I have the honor of training for this event on behalf of one of these individuals, Dennis Dido of Fairfield, PA. Dennis was first diagnosed with CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia) in December of 2007. Presently Dennis' treatment includes oral chemo.
I am personally committed to raising $1,800 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am asking you to join me in this commitment by contributing as generously as you are able. Whatever you give makes a difference and matters - it matters to me, to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and, above all else, to those suffering and to those recovered from these cancers, including my Honored Teammate, Dennis. Please consider making a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. In addition, you can visit my blog where I will be documenting my experience.
Thank you for considering this invitation to join with me in support of the works of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. With the generosity of people like you, there is every reason to believe that a cure for blood-related cancers is in sight!
With heartfelt gratitude,
~Julie
Waiting to start the 2011 San Diego Marathon as a member of Team in Training!
4.1.13 Note:
Originally Ihad signed up to do the Got The Nerve? Triathlon, but decided to challenge myself and switched to the Black Bear Triathlon. Although I made that decision quite some time ago, my fundraising page was just migrated over to my "new" event, and with that, I lost all of my previous donor's names on the right of this page. As always, I can't thank them enough, so...MANY THANKS TO:
