Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to Gwens Page, my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a 1/2 marathon as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
As some of you may know, my niece, Gwen, has developed Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She was diagnosed on September 15, 2011, which is just barely a month after her 6th birthday. Since September, she has undergone more than 20 medical procedures, such as lumbar punctures and hip drilling for marrow testing.
Gwen is a very beautiful and sunny little girl who is going through a very hard time right now. She spends Monday through Friday in hospital since she is undergoing her 2nd round of chemo. Her dad says she is a very tough kid who is mostly doing well (considering what she is dealing with), but she still has her rough days. Her immune system is highly supressed now due to chemo, so she cannot play with other kids, or go to school. Even her big brother Jason has to be very careful.
Fortunately, as far as cancers go, Gwen has a very good chance of survival. We all realize how lucky we got with that diagnosis, and with this fundraising, we are hoping to give other families that same opportunity.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
