Shan's Team in Training
Jun 11, 2013 by Shannon Nakayama
I run. It is what I love to do. This fall I am running with Team in Training to raise money for a great cause and I get to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon! Too good to pass up!
One of the reasons I chose to participate with Team in Training is because of Ray F. Castro or many may know him as Irene Ornelas’ grandfather. In 2009, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and has been battling it ever since. Over the last decade I have had the privilege of spending many holidays and family gatherings with him and his family. He has courageously gone through treatment off and on over the years while still taking care of his dog more than himself. He is one of the truly good people in this world with a huge heart and few words.
The other reason is because almost two years ago I crashed my bike riding down Wildcat. Team in Training happened to be on a training ride the same day and selflessly helped me. They called for an ambulance, kept us calm, tried bandaging me up and drove mine and my brother’s bikes to the hospital. The group of riders was amazing and I never got to properly acknowledge everything they did so this is my small way of saying, “thank you.”
Both of these reasons are what drove me to be participate with Team in Training… Also these reasons are why I am grateful and feel blessed everyday for everything I have including incredible friends and family and I have the opportunity to run 26.2 miles on Oct. 20th.
So with all of that I am asking for money! Money for a good cause and a good group of people.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
